But I thought all the immigrants were here to claim benefits, council houses and not work a day in their lives?
The Labour Market is like any other market, in simple terms an oversupply of labour keeps the price of labour down.
An undersupply of labour pushes wages up.
Big Corporations and Politicians love cheap labour as it maximises profits and has the added bonus of silencing people who point this out by calling them racists.
It's a win,win for the wealthy and readily supported by the hard of thinking.
That wasn’t my point and you know it
What is your point?
I mention immigration and you immediately try and play the race card.
Did I? Where?
I was talking about an oversupply of immigrant labour driving wages down then you start babbling on about Council Houses and Immigrants not working and claiming benefits.

The number of vacancies in December 2022 to February 2023 was 1,124,000 (ONS)

What oversupply of cheap immigrant labour is driving down wages?
We could happily take another 1 million immigrants and the job market still wouldn't be full.

There was only one person playing the racist card silly Milly.

What type of vacancies are you citing Full-time or Part-time?
Tens of thousands of 16 hour contracts aren't much use to anyone who wants to buy a House or start a family.
And if Companies are so desperate for staff why aren't Wages increasing?

Sorry, I asked where I ''played the race card''? And could you perhaps elaborate what you mean by the term first? I havent seen any discussion on race let alone mentioned it myself. Maybe you have seen something I havent. Thanks Milly.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Well, they are for starters. That is why all the major supermarkets keep upping their wages. They are fighting over the dwindling labour pool.

Well it’s not much less than we get. For sitting at a till. That aside, and shop workers deserve all the respect, they have received multiple pay rises in the last year. Why do you think that has happened for a non union workforce? Might it be because they want to attract people to working for them?

So despite receiving "multiple pay rises" Supermarket workers are still only receiving 80p per hour over the National Living Wage.
It is very disingenuous of you to try and spin it that supermarkets have increased wages to attract more workers when the fact is, despite their terrible wages increasing they are still on terrible wages.
My point stands that there is an oversupply of labour so employers can get away with keeping wages low.
It's quite amazing that people on here can't grasp the economic reality of supply and demand.

Your "point" is factually incorrect.
Your agenda was laid bare for all to see when you called it cheap immigrant labour.

If you are going to be racist at least admit to being a racist and not try to hide it behind some pseudo economic mumbo jumbo that only you can understand.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Supply and demand is economic mumbo jumbo, if the laws of supply and demand don't apply to the labour market then why are wages so low?
Many of the World's leading economists will be waiting with baited breath to hear your thesis, after all you are arguing against hundreds of years accepted economic orthodoxy.

Ahh, the almost inevitable cry of "racism".
The banker call that closes down any argument. It's effect is wearing a little thin now though, mostly due to it's over-use.
