Give the union some credit, they did make RM budge on their supposed "final offer". The Union have made a few mistakes but in general they've done more good than bad.
The pay rise has got worse   and not backdated, the sick pay changes hasn't been taken off the table ,the later starts are still coming all be it next year,no revisions will be reversed and all the reps are still suspended,im struggling to see what i pay my subs for ,its not great value for money.
Ok so what do you want them to do? Hold a gun to Thompson's head 😅 As I said before, the union have dropped the ball a few times. They have put alot of pressure on RM too.
If you was in front of Dave ward & co, what great advice would you have for them? Or would you just shake his hand and say great job like all the other keyboard warriors on here :cuppa

The union need to call strikes, to have any chance of saving face.

I suspect instead they'll say something like in the interest of being democratic we have decided to put the deal to the vote, in the hope the members let them off the hook. Although will they not take a stance on the deal, by neither recommending it or not recommending it ...

But what are strikes really going to achieve apart from potentially encouraging IDS to put RM into Admin?

Exactly, they are in a position where they are thinking shall we call Rm's bluff on the administration threat. Difficult 1 to call.

They can't make that call, they need permission from the government to go into administration.

How administration would work is anybody's guess aswell.
UBS calculated, for example, that the equity value of Royal Mail was zero, and went on to consider a hypothetical scenario of insolvency/separation. Using peer group analysis and financial year 2024 estimates, and adjusting for debt and leases, it calculated an equity value for GLS of 220- 430p per share, compared with IDS’s current share price of 225p.

It’s certainly not an exact science, however, and such calculations underline how hard it is to assess the impact of IDS’s debt pile on investors. In a group structure, the distribution borrowings and lease liabilities are often fuzzy. It seems unlikely, though, that profitable GLS will be able to escape entirely unscathed, as shareholders, bondholders and taxpayers battle for the best deal.

If there's no improved offer this week I think they need to do it.

We can't accept RM's crappy terms. So we have to call their bluff. Sh*t or bust time.

Hmmmm! If I was in front of DW, I would tell him to earn his salary! Simon T has, so why can't he?

I can't even afford shares in United Buscuits now CWU/RM & UCAS have driven the share price up!

I meant a difficult for the union to decide if they call RM's bluff. If they do & RM go into administration, the union will be blamed. If they don't call then we blame them for not doing anything. It's like playing poker against Phil Ivey. I suspect that's why they are trying to keep talks going.

Agree with you, would like to see that happen too. I just wouldn't wanna be the 1 to call it. Compulsory redundancies at stake.

They haven’t budged on their offer since way before Christmas. If striking during the busiest part of the year, didn’t sway them, it is clear there will be no movement if further strikes are announced.

You have both the union and RM saying administration is a threat. We have no leverage. I’d rather a s**t deal than none personally.
