Agreed. Absolute nonsense. Surprised he didn’t bring up immigrants as well as ‘dole scroungers’. If it is so easy living on benefits why isn’t he or she doing it?

Because some people actually want to work and contirbute to society, welfare state is a big problem. I know people who claim 'anxiety' and get PIP , esa and all their housing bills paid. thats quite a comfy life, its absolutely milked.

i am sure i seen somewhere that the amount of people who dont work or on sick in the country is 20 percent or around there. i may be wrong please correct me if so. that is a very high burden on the country and seems way too high. of course there is a lot of genuine cases but its hard to believe 20 percent of this country can not work there is a lot of milkers

Iv always said that people should be encouraged to work, where possible.
Child care don’t help. Some colleague was telling me that she can’t afford the extra nursery fees. Some nurseries charge £250 or more a week and for single parents sometimes it’s easier and financially beneficial to not work. Some nurseries you get 15/30 free hours a week depending on circumstances but that still leaves a shortfall and doesn’t include possible child minding on a Saturday which is also expensive.

You might also be a carer or something.

Maybe we should make it more attractive to work then by providing a decent wage for more menial jobs? I have no idea how young kids today can even afford to rent houses let alone buy one. Not that I believe the welfare system is anywhere near as cushy an option as you make out.

You are doing exactly what the people running this country want you to do. They distract you with scapegoating the least fortunate in society and people coming here in boats, so as you don’t look to where the real problems are. Billions of public money being siphoned off by the cronies running this country equates to far more money than that being spent to house people or pay them sickness benefits.

They have got it spot on Royal Mail set out last year to smash the union and deliver a gig economy to maximise profits to fill their pockets not ours, our union are now at the last stand its either fight back with longer more sustained strikes (which they are right its our only leverage) or forever say goodbye to the union and the job, its time to pick a side only if the union call those strikes because they will never win another ballot if they don't and 1000's will leave in their droves and the end of the union as we know it.
One major negative is the state of our finances six months on.
It's much harder for the average person to pay their bills now, let alone face the prospect of losing their weekly wage for an extended period with no prospect of all of this ending anytime soon.
My fuel bills have doubled and I'm paying £40 to £50 a week more for food for my family.

The time wasted by inaction from the CWU in this dispute has ruined lives.
Which is why week long (or month long) strikes won’t work now.
I still think that a week long strike at the beginning instead of a day here and a couple of days there would have been a better weapon for the CWU but we will never know for sure now.
Everything has pretty much fallen into RM hands though. They would have been aware that the cost of living was going to be an issue. For them they just had to ride out the early storm.
Looks like people are going to and willing to except the gig economy and that's your prerogative ,the union have completely underestimated their opponents and we are here because of it,i'm willing to do one last stand before i decide to jack it in and move on but i wont do 1 or 2 days strikes if its not weeks they will never win so i'll be done i'll never work in a gig economy ,if we lose i wish everyone that decides to stay the best of luck and i sincerely mean that and understand everyone has different circumstances.

I also read that only about 25% of the population contribute more to society via taxes than they take out via benefits. That's 75% of people who bleed the country and leave the honest 25% to pay for everything

Think yourself lucky then, but don’t take a swing at the people less fortunate than yourself.

There's people who genuinely need a hand maybe they have become disabled through no fault of their own.
It's the people who allow the tax payer to pay for their boozing, smoking, iPhones, takeaways and six kids that I'm talking about. Those that could work but choose not to because it wouldn't pay much more than doing nothing.

What would you suggest we do about people who choose to live on benefits who have kids then? You can’t blame the children for the choices of their parents.

You are still parroting the typical right-wing distraction nonsense either way. Go and research how much money you receive on benefits - you can do this on the actual government website rather than relying on tabloid toss journalism. Then come back and we can have a debate about why it isn’t as cushy a deal as you seem to think.

Well there's plenty doing it. No it's not the kids fault but they're born into that society and mindset of their parents and it's very few that see a way of escaping to a better self financed life. And so it goes on. Why are we paying people heating bills who then go and buy McDonalds , go to the pub and smoke? It's ludicrous. How many town centre fast food places do you see with the overweight mum and 6 kids outside eating? Every time you get news items on food banks you can guarantee most in there will be obese. They just say, it's so expensive to eat healthy. Rubbish. And exercise is free.
My mrs sees it at work in midwifery, the mum on her 7th kid this time with the 3rd different dad, on benefits with the latest iPhone, playing the system .
People who genuinely need a hand, short term, who want to help themselves into a better life situation, fair enough. But it's the habitual career benefit society im talking about. It's not about politics, it's about common sense.

It isn’t anywhere near as prevalent as you seem to think. Indeed, it is more the case now, that working people are claiming more benefits than the ‘work shy’ you mention, because we don’t pay people enough to actually go out and work. People who work can still claim financial assistance and I am far angrier about subsidising these people, as we are in effect paying for wealthy businesses to get away from paying a decent living wage.

I'm with you on that point. Why the hell someone earning £50k can get any assistance from the govt is beyond me. I don't think covid and the furlough scheme helped in people's attitudes, although fully understand why it had to be done. More affluent people who were furloughed now seem to think the govt should bail them out of any hardship '"can't afford my mortgage or energy bills as they've gone up so much, please pay them so we can still have three cars and gym membership and eat out once a week " seems to be engrained in some now. What happened to saving for harder times? People seem to want to keep their savings and ask for handouts.

Most people who now claim state benefits are actually working.

All these people who regurgitate the tory work shy scrounger rhetoric have never experienced the draconian Universal Credit process, so have no right to comment on those that do.
