Because they obviously had an angle they want to push by comparing a 10% pay rise over 3 yrs to 14% inflation a yr. Which is not true.

They literally have quoted the RM offers in the article. They haven’t made anything up. Inflation was at 14% in November last year, so again, not really sure why people would have an issue with this. Inflation is still sky high.

CPI reached 11% in November last yr, currently stands at 10% and is forecast to drop back down to 2% target by 24 . Was never 14% and deffo won't be 14% for the duration of the pay deal quoted, so yes, I stopped reading because it was being sensationalistic to push it's own socialist message and not being objective.LouBarlow wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 16:37They literally have quoted the RM offers in the article. Source? I’m presuming you pay energy bills for your home? Have they not increased? Do you buy food? Noticed anything there? You are naive if you believe any of these are coming down within the next three years.rambo1 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 19:54CPI reached 11% in November last yr, currently stands at 10% and is forecast to drop back down to 2% target by 24 . I also find it amusing that anyone living in this country complains about socialist agendas, when they are literally surrounded by socialism at work. The welfare state, free access to healthcare, free state education. All socialist policies that you contribute to.

The effects of industrial action are diminished over time.
The CWU blew our chance of the full effect of a strike prior to Christmas, summer action would be relatively futile.
The business is fu*ked, we're all bored with months of going around in circles and we are basically beyond hope.
An Agreement won't change anything, we're all on shifting sands for good.

They have got it spot on Royal Mail set out last year to smash the union and deliver a gig economy to maximise profits to fill their pockets not ours, our union are now at the last stand its either fight back with longer more sustained strikes (which they are right its our only leverage) or forever say goodbye to the union and the job, its time to pick a side only if the union call those strikes because they will never win another ballot if they don't and 1000's will leave in their droves and the end of the union as we know it.

One major negative is the state of our finances six months on.guardianangel wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 08:07They have got it spot on Royal Mail set out last year to smash the union and deliver a gig economy to maximise profits to fill their pockets not ours, our union are now at the last stand its either fight back with longer more sustained strikes (which they are right its our only leverage) or forever say goodbye to the union and the job, its time to pick a side only if the union call those strikes because they will never win another ballot if they don't and 1000's will leave in their droves and the end of the union as we know it.
It's much harder for the average person to pay their bills now, let alone face the prospect of losing their weekly wage for an extended period with no prospect of all of this ending anytime soon.
My fuel bills have doubled and I'm paying £40 to £50 a week more for food for my family.
The time wasted by inaction from the CWU in this dispute has ruined lives.

Which is why week long (or month long) strikes won’t work now.POSTPERSON50 wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 08:21One major negative is the state of our finances six months on.guardianangel wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 08:07They have got it spot on Royal Mail set out last year to smash the union and deliver a gig economy to maximise profits to fill their pockets not ours, our union are now at the last stand its either fight back with longer more sustained strikes (which they are right its our only leverage) or forever say goodbye to the union and the job, its time to pick a side only if the union call those strikes because they will never win another ballot if they don't and 1000's will leave in their droves and the end of the union as we know it.

I still think that a week long strike at the beginning instead of a day here and a couple of days there would have been a better weapon for the CWU but we will never know for sure now.
Everything has pretty much fallen into RM hands though. They would have been aware that the cost of living was going to be an issue. For them they just had to ride out the early storm.

Re: Royal Mail workers say 'escalating strikes is our only leverage'
Energy bills have increased. They are now coming down though, there are even some fixes on the market now so that's a sign that they are planning energy costs to drop. Utilities are going up because they use historic cpi data so there will be a lag before we see them not going up by as much. Food shopping , we honestly haven't noticed a massive increase in general, can still get weekly food shop for £60 for the two of us and we cook from scratch all our meals and have a very good fresh food diet. OK a few things have rocketed like butter (remember when that was less than a quid) oils , pasta but if you shop wisely using the APP offers and don't just stick to one supermarket you can smooth out the rises. People don't help them selves because they either can't be bothered or don't know. For example we changed our sims to O2 last year and via their airtime rewards we can pay for one of them via reward credit back. £9 sim 30gb data . Can purchase gift cards via airtime rewards with 4% back so if you spend £250 mnth on Morrisons or Sainsburys (we do both for my morrisons and nectar) we pay for one of our sims. Free. Also its gives bonus rewards back too. O2 my priority, get a free greggs coffee a week or a bacon roll at the weekend.LouBarlow wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 07:20Source? The prices of things in general won't be coming down as you put it but the rate they're all going up will be less , hence it won't be 11% inflation for much longer. The pay deal they have put on the table is not inflation busting, but people have got to accept you can't just have inflation busting rises when inflation is as it is. That will not bring it down. People have to tighten their belts a bit, get money savvy, until the economy resets.
The welfare state needs sorting out , it's far too easy and attractive for some people to sit on their backsides watching their big tv's and get paid as much as someone grafting. Free access to healthcare by which you mean the NHS , is a, broken , and b, not free. We pay taxes for it. I have no choice but to contribute, until I finish work and don't pay tax, until my state pension kicks in.
