You are right blueshirt, its just hard to read posts from people who's opinions are so wrong you just think that cant be right, must be a company spy, must be a troll, but at the end of the day we are all human beings and if you look around you there's plenty just like these people outside. So probably not any of the above just a couple of Richard heads who will get reap what they sow and then blame the rest of the world for their problems.

I’m suggesting people are lying when they say they have unmanageable walks because I get accused of lying when I say people still finish early in my office.
It’s not an opinion it’s fact.
A lot of these people are senior but some aren’t that high up the ladder.

Like you said though overtime isn’t compulsory so work to your time. If posties don’t have a backbone to say no they need more than the CWU in their life. They need a 24/7 Samaritan service. Apparently 1 in 12 of our work force is off sick any pretty much anytime. Considering the history of Royal Mail is so steeped in ex military men it surprises me that so many of the work force now can’t stand up for themselves. The Salvation Army would probably be too much stress for them.

A long time ago, no manager or postie dare fail a single item. Clear office policy was strictly observed.

On the odd occasion that any mail arrived after the posties had gone, or any missorts had been left in, the managers would endeavour to sort it up and would arrange for it to go out. Everything was reported.

Covid changed the game. We started off being reluctant to fail mail, but soon realised that due to the amount of sickness, the social distancing issues (one to a van) and everything else that came with it, failed mail was unavoidable. Once that became acceptable, the headache of clearing all mail on a daily basis was over. We didn't have to request overtime or people working days off, we could allow plenty of annual leave requests, in short, it saved us a fortune.

As far as I can see, OFCOM failed to carry out any checks as to the levels of the mail failures, and lost touch with what was actually going on. The USO has not been followed to any degree for three years. Whenever the mail is light and we have a full workforce compliment, we still fail part duties because we prefer to loan the staff to other units rather than have to fully clear.

There needs to be a major inquiry into the whole USO issue.

That is exactly as it is at my depot

RM made millions in profits not just through parcels and COVID kits. The company realised that they saved money by not delivering the mail on every duty every day. After the lockdowns, managers kept operating this policy of not paying out overtime to get mail delivered - much to the frustration of many postie's because many of us were faced with delivering two or even three days worth of mail and standard (not tracked) parcels. It's that what lead to some postie's being overwhelmed and going on sick through stress and of being overworked.

OfCom did nothing. In fact, they produced a report MONTHS after the pandemic ended reminding Royal Mail that they shouldn't be using COVID as an excuse for failing the letter service.

Let the truth set you free... We cannot blame managers and managers for every ill associated with our jobs... We know what is happening and the management knows what is happening

Furthermore, some of the managers are ex Posties, they know how things are; why come on these forum to try and pretend and claim that we are playing into management's hand.

PDA actuals are a distraction to our dispute! Revisions have come in and it is strange how after a few weeks, most days are complete even with 45 minutes added... Yet, the revision is still not fair because they did not use PDA actuals or involve the Reps. Go figure how low the volumes are right now!

At the end of the day if we are failing to deliver then questions need to be asked why

COMs are responsible for their section and like it or not they should be taking accountability for it.

Maybe your office is different but ours generally has failed deliveries everyday and it's always mail and standard parcels that gets brought back, not the tracked items. The business really should be allowing for that and allow COMs to employ extra staff or allocate overtime so that it is covered. As you said many of them are ex-posties and even a few years ago they would be forced to go out and get deliveries covered so that it didn't fail.

It must be your unit; I do agree that every unit is different and all that...

But folks wanting to be paid extra for working within or even below their contractual hours just because it is 2 days mail is not on and should have stopped ages ago. It does not generally happen in my office and when it does, not as generous as some of what I have heard.

You cannot just keep employing new members of staff just because people are off sick; what happens when the sick returns? Furthermore, we don't want them to use agency or casual staff...

By the way, there are offices where overtime is not an issue as such, working days off, taking cut offs and coming early to prep is still widely available in many offices.
