That 'duty of care' excuse was one of the biggest, glaringly obvious lies. I don't really understand why you need to check if someone's ok when they have stopped still for a bit. It was a completely made up excuse.

It's 100% used against people to give them more work to do.
Managers don't seem to worry about Duty of Care when they've buggered off home at 10.00 and all their staff are still out working. :no no

I suppose if they turn up for work the next day and Old Bill's Van is still stationery out on a Deep Rural delivery they might check to see if he's died of a heart attack! Lazy Incompetent Wasters the lot of them! :cuppa

There was no duty of care when they left me for 3 hours in the cold on a rural broken down and all the bosses had gone home.
My point exactly GA, that's out of order. :no no

Just like the BS about having to deliver Tracked Parcel for H&S reasons, "In case they blocked fire exits etc" what about other LARGE parcels or leaving the Small Tracked Parcels & Letters behind. :hmmmm

These people are experienced at dodging the questions and giving evasive answers, pity they never pursued the question on wether Managers recieve bonuses for prioritising Tracked Items .... I'm sure they do. :cuppa

How many MPs in the committee? Only 5 spoke with the chairman taking most of the time...

They did not even ask the chair 💺 f the board much? Not t challenged on shareholders payout or bonuses for top management...

He spoke with a stutter but he was clear in saying that the financial situation is bad and he had met the CWU to discuss that - not necessarily the dispute... So they are all at one with Simon.

He mentioned the level of sickness absence, employee survey (distraction but hey ho) and the USO...

The MP with glasses was a curious one! He is almost agreeing that RM is hampered by the USO but went to muddy the waters by saying that perhaps the company should stop trying to grow the parcel business or make the changes proposed all at once but the CHair of the board had already mentioned the declining letters... Is he suggesting they concentrate on letters and or separate the parcel from letters? I don't understand his angle but at least different from the other 3 - and they were all sat together.

This show is going nowhere - people need to move on; it will not help our dispute, even if Simon loses his job. You will still have people like Ricky and others with the same mindset

Thompson was recruited by the business for this purpose, the mindset of the business is clear, drastic changes are already in motion.

Any agreement won't halt further drastic change, it'll be a thumb in the dam job

I think this WILL help our dispute.

Now everytime a so called "Rogue" Manager tries to BS his staff that they MUST deliver Tracked Items because, "They're a Premium Product ... The Customers have paid more for them .... They're causing a H&S issue ..... etc" Those Posties can call BS because they've seen ST swear before a Parlimentary Commitee that he has NEVER told his Managers to prioritise ANY particular Mail Item! :no no

I think that's pretty helpful. :cuppa

What this "show" has done is demonstrate that RM are hardly even paying lip service to their legal obligations under the USO. Their plans for the future of the company are illegal and they must staff the business correctly in order to deliver letters 6 days per week. The company was sold off on the cheap because of the onerous obligation of the USO. They cannot now simply choose to ignore that obligation and say that they are primarily a parcel company now. The majority of their staff spend the majority of their time delivering letters and not parcels.

The current board's vision for the company is based on the flawed assumption that the USO will be amended. They need to revisit that model that they have been trying to implement by executive action and start working, with the union, on a realistic alternative. The current CEO is probably unable to achieve this given the confrontational manner in which he has tried to destroy the union that he would now need to work in collaboration with. As the public face of the company he must go, and allow someone else to find a way of working with, rather than in opposition to, the staff and their union.

OH come on redlen and filthybastardbloke where is your support for your idols now very quiet !
Idols? I have no time for ST just like I have no time for you.
I have better things to do with my life than watch a millionaire squirm.

Iv said before that I go to work because I want to. The changes don’t bother me and if the job became so unworkable I would leave. I’d find something more suited to me. I’m not part of the union so don’t have to listen to their strike talk.
If we do achieve any additional pay I assume you will be donating yours to the Tory party?

All yesterday's proceedings will do is to pile all the pressure onto DOMs, as now, USO failures will be homed in on with intense scrutiny. It's come from the top, on live TV, that nothing is prioritised.

That means if any office is failing and caught out, the DOM will become the fall guy and - without good excuse - out on his/her 'arris as there will be no support from the levels above.

Interesting times ahead for managers!

These two meetings have single handedly done the most towards resolving this dispute, if you do not understand why at this point then there is little reason in it being explained to you.

Absolutely and with revisions coming in that take for granted the USO will never be adhered to it puts pressure back on managers.
Personally I think the Reg Op's have been pretty much the ones forcing these through to Comms.
No doubt as communicated back lost November with the ACAS fallout of the joint statement there is a financial gain to be had even if these revisions don't work.

Duty of care my backside. What about the sacks of 1st & 2nd class parcels that are left languishing in aisles when they have had all the Tracked filtered out?

The MPs saw right through their nonsense thanks to the 100s of contacts by posties and managers - which was revealing to note and will have stung the three incompetent amigos.

They would check first to see if the tracked has been done before checking on anyone’s wellbeing

Do they want anymore emails from us based on the latest parliament meeting?

Thompson's nonsense about big yellow dots being there so they can check on the posties as a duty of care.

Thompson's lies about parcels only being prioritised on strike days.

Thompson's statement of "our letter delivery performance is slightly better than our parcel delivery performance" being total nonsense. It sounds like Thompson has taken the stats for parcels as a whole, when it's the TRACKED parcels that they prioritise. I believe Royal Mail specifically aim for something like a 99%+ delivery performance with their tracked parcels. There is no way letter delivery performance would get anywhere close to this. Thompson is slimey.

Ricky's nonsense about parcels being prioritised due to them being bulkier and causing backlog when management will make sure the tiny tracked parcels, as well as tracked letters get prioritised before standard letters or standard parcels. We are never told to prioritise large tracked, we are told to prioritise all tracked items.

Thompson's nonsense about 'wanting to do better on the USO'..... meanwhile at our mail centre we continue to be massively understaffed, no new staff coming in and we are still running a 5 day letter service and we are a massive office.

The ongoing disregard for the USO and massive understaffing of offices.

we were told even today taking parcels on the lapse isnt a debate, do it. leave the mail, take the parcels

We are also scanning all our own tracked at the frame before delivery
