Re: Time to think outside the Box.
Even if 100,000 posties bought 20 quid of shares a week, in 1 year we'd own 4% of the company. It would have zero impact on the share price, and put zero pressure on billionaire investors and execs.
Is this even a serious suggestion as an alternative to collective bargaining? Jesus wept.

Re: Time to think outside the Box.
I believe that Kretinsky knows that the value of the company is worth far more than it's Market Cap so pushing up the Share price would hopefully scare him off.
I may or may not right about Thompson and Co acting as Kretinsky's Confederates but this dispute has been resolvable from the outset and should never have got this far.
Our Union isn't Millitant and only wants a fair deal and has tried to deal with some pretty outrageous behaviour from Mr Thompson.

Re: Time to think outside the Box.
100000x £20x 52 = £104 million which at the current Share price would buy over 45 million Shares to add to our 94 million giving a total of 139 million Shares compared with Kretinsky's 221 million Shares.sindba wrote: ↑19 Feb 2023, 19:49Even if 100,000 posties bought 20 quid of shares a week, in 1 year we'd own 4% of the company. Just stop please. Just nonsense because ...
even if your premise is right about Kretinsky and even if your maths is correct - both dubious i.m.o,
what is a nailed down certainty is that you will NEVER get 100,000+ posties acting in unison to do this - its not even possible to get them all to do things that should be much easier:-
do the job properly
perform an overtime ban
don't start early
do van checks every day
not work on strike days !
need I go on?

Them two would very likely require a fresh ballot as if everyone does it, there's the risk of RM construing it to be unofficial industrial actionstevejm wrote: ↑19 Feb 2023, 20:18Just stop please. Just nonsense because ...

I'm not proposing that they should be done. I was replying to Milly.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Feb 2023, 20:21

Re: Time to think outside the Box.
Just because something exists doesn't mean everything is one.
Kretinsky's main game is Gas transportation, it's where he made the kind of money that makes Royal Mail look like pocket change.
VESA is an investment vehicle and their investment in Royal Mail is one of many. They may be trying to get their hands on GLS as cheaply as possible but that's business and a long way from a complex plot to undermine the company's financial viability by using an agent provacateur to drive down the share price.
He may want to make some money out of Royal Mail but I don't think he's willing to go to jail for it. He is notoriously careful in keeping his distance from some of the more dubious practices involved in the gas business.
This isn't a James Bond movie.
Williams is a notorious Tory anti-union zealot.
Thompson is a notorious serial f**k up.
There's your real conspiracy in a nutshell.

Come on Woody - we all know that Kretinsky is GoldFinger, Williams is Dr. No and Simon Thompson is Jaws.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Feb 2023, 21:06

He is very shrewd and got a good deal from the dodgy Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Feb 2023, 21:06Just because something exists doesn't mean everything is one.

Re: Time to think outside the Box.
Staff buying up shares as a group is a good thing.
However having more shares may mean that one becomes more interested in the share price and dividends being paid than the welfare of the workforce and eventually becomes the very thing that one started out fighting against.
It happened once at a mine I think in Wales where the staff clubbed in and bought the mine to run as a community.
I'll have to do some research but I think it all went t1ts up.
This is a bit of a vague post but you kind of get my point, money can have a special power in making people change their outlook on things.
Edit:
Here's the story of the mine
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_Colliery
I watched a documentary on TV about it, some miners wanted to employ agency workers at a reduced rate to work the pit to maximise their profits so you get my drift.
