I retired 8 years ago after 25 years and I see that nothing has changed with regards to the CWU. The state of the union for the postie on the street is immeasurably worse than it was even when I retired let alone for the years before. Until the CWU and RM come together on a fair and reasonable pay offer with a workable system that competes with the myriad delivery companies who deliver 7 days a week until later in the day then there will not be a solution.

At least Royal Mail fighting against this 1 day strike shows that a 1 day strike does harm the business.

The more harm it does then there is less chance of a settlement imo. I was surprised that the strikes leading up to Christmas didn't have more of an impact than they did, despite the delays so striking now would I imagine have less of an impact.

Lost almost 2k in wages and allowances and 2 days leave and the CWU can’t get it right what an absolute joke it’s not as if it’s the first time

Listen deep breath, relax. We will call another strike date and remember, management want to SMASH our Union! We will be even more totally screwed if we lose our Union and I know the membership are frustrated by this latest setback, but we have to stick together. Vote Yes !!!!

We can't call another date yet as there are no ballots left "in time" to do so. It's going to be March at the earliest now assuming a yes vote and it passes the threshold.

Maybe with running two ballots with multiple issues involved and multiple historical agreements under dispute is making things overly complicated and RM with their deep pockets (whilst simultaneously pleading poverty) and expensive lawyers can always find some area to legally challenge the dispute, maybe this is the CWU's mistake.

Let's hope the next ballot will result in a much simpler tactic with less room to slip up.
Keep it simple and straight forward.

Looking back at it, it was a mind boggling why they even had two ballots instead of just doing them one in a whole. Seems like even in past disputes the pay has always been linked to changes being done with the job. The CWU themselves set the bar in that regard. It was dumb for them to even giving these guys an inch with every pay deal since. I guess though the CWU felt confident enough to actually get a pay deal without any strings to it. Not so much now I don't think, seems like they've completely abandoned that idea now and just trying to get any deal in that's better than this one.

It started because they had a pay ballot and insisted for four months that there should be a pay deal without change. They couldn't then take action on anything change related as there was no legal mandate.

Because they listed on the reason for strike the Executive Action being carried out and now Royal Mail have added the Executive Action on the subject of the pay deal Jesus wept incompetent doesn't really suffice for how badly this has dispute has been played out by the CWU. The whole rhetoric of "We can Win this dispute" is so dated and out of touch with the reality of most of Royal Mail's staff experience in the last 5 years but then that's what happens when you are so far removed from the day to day running of the company and spend all your time with Upper Management.
