Thompson would love to give us a one-off bonus out of his "best and final offer" money. The union would be stupid to consider it.
What we need is a proper inflation-based pay rise which, unlike a one-off bonus, increases our pay next year and the year after etc.
I do hope that the union wouldn't even consider accepting a paltry 9% over 18 months even if it came withot strings, as that would be a horrendous real terms pay cut. If they ever have the gall to put that kind of offer to us I will definitely vote against it. As for a one off bonus, Thompson knows exactly where he can stick it.
Inflation is currently 9.9% so a 9% 18 month deal is better than what we currently have. ( Another deal can be thrashed out after)
Sundays have been scrapped for current staff. ( I was wrong, thanks for striking)
The first sick instance is the same as now.
All they need to work on is later start times (maybe get the whole country to start and finish at the same time ,say 730 for FT staff?)
Look into the banking of hours, lets be honest everyone, Mondays and Tuesday are a joke now so I fully agree that maybe a weekly banking of hours is needed ( short days mon/tues, long days weds/thurs etc)
Then we just need to get on with it before nobody has a job.
So prices are going up by 9.9% now on top of the 11/12% (or whatever 2022’s inflation was).
If we get a 9% pay rise now, not only is that still below the current rate of 9.9% (if that is correct?), but means our spending power is still way below what it was at the end of 2021.

Correct, but right now we are effectively 20.9% behind, and who knows how much more if this doesnt get sorted soon.
Id sooner br 9% behind than 20%.
^ i was just pointing it out because its amazing how many people - including journalists etc - dont understand inflation, and that falling inflation does not mean lower prices.

Youve educated me thankyou.
I think a deal is needed urgently even if its not optimal, Any money is better than staying where we are.
Theyve moved on the terms thanks to the strikers, but its important to not push it to far and end up with either nothing or even worse on the dole queue fighting over jobs at Alsi for just a tenner an hour and terms no better than whats bein offered.
we have never been asked…
CWU are your representatives - and are therefore able to put forward alternative pay structures - that they believe their members would support….
The cost of living crisis is caused by pay not keeping up with inflation. Its not going to disappear one day soon, a singular extra payment serves no purpose but to keep us begging. We need to catch back up in our purchasing power permanently, anything less is a pay cut.
Cat amongst the pigeons but like he says CWU represent the work force and according to Thompson the CWU never mentioned it? Why should RM make the first move?
Maybe because RM made a large windfall during the pandemic? However because of the CEOs incentive scheme he chose to give it away to shareholders, instead of the workforce who earned it for him. In other words short term benefits for ST are more important to him than the long term viability of the company. No doubt he will be leaving within the next 12 months with a golden handshake.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't our pay deal from from October 2022 to April 2024? (18 months)
As we received 2% pay rise in August - April 2022 to October 2022.

Of course he was going to give everyone the same bonus that he got, but no one asked for it. He is just a low level troll, probably tugging himself off after every post he makes.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

That doesn't answer nothing. If no one asked for a "cost of living crisis" payment you think RM would just give you one off of their own back? Let's summise how the conversation went, RM "maybe we should give all the workforce a cost of living crisis paymment?" ST "well, no one's asked for one or even mentioned it so.....?"
