RMCtv : Why there wasn't a cost of living bonus for Royal Mail staff-CWU's fault?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That statement does not make sense to me!
Was there money to pay us a bonus - (bonus or palliative whatever it might be called)?
And was that not to put the CWU during all the negotiations or was the vibes just so bad right from the off?
All those months of talking and negotiating - no mention of Cost of Living crisis and how to help mitigate? Hmm!

“Alternative pay structure” is the key phrase. You can bet that any bonus payment wouldn’t come from new money but would mean a reduction in the offered pay increase.

Cannot understand why Royal Mail have not offered to throw a good few quid our way to break the impasse. Would have cost them a bit short term but it would have been worth a punt. Union could claim a small victory and the Company might gain a bit of goodwill because this could drag on forever, and in the end up no one will win.

Sadly, I suspect that it would have been rejected: remember it is not have just about money; and many months, the CWU wanted a no-string pay rise and a separate issue on terms - very complicating.
It could have been given anyhow but it will not have resolved anything and it will be classed as propaganda.
However, nothing stopped them from given us something but how much to give to about 150,000 members of staff?

Cat amongst the pigeons but like he says CWU represent the work force and according to Thompson the CWU never mentioned it? Why should RM make the first move?

This is disingenuous to say the least
''Oh they were only in discussions about pay rises nothing about a BONUS'
Yet you have people, even on this very thread, swallowing it
Even after his slippery performance at Westminster
Ward has been clear the last few months that he and his team would accept, and put to the members, the full 9% backdated

If you are so sure it would be rejected why don't they try it & prove it or not

If RMs offer would be accepted then we wouldn’t vote to go on strike again would we? So I’m sure if most are happy with the deal on the table they will vote no…..
It’s a stupid argument to say that we haven’t had a say

Thompson would love to give us a one-off bonus out of his "best and final offer" money. The union would be stupid to consider it.
What we need is a proper inflation-based pay rise which, unlike a one-off bonus, increases our pay next year and the year after etc.
I do hope that the union wouldn't even consider accepting a paltry 9% over 18 months even if it came withot strings, as that would be a horrendous real terms pay cut. If they ever have the gall to put that kind of offer to us I will definitely vote against it. As for a one off bonus, Thompson knows exactly where he can stick it.

9% over 18 months, so the next pay offer is October this year, is something I would vote for if it’s back dated and no strings. Ain’t going to happen…

Inflation is currently 9.9% so a 9% 18 month deal is better than what we currently have. ( Another deal can be thrashed out after)Schiff wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 13:43Thompson would love to give us a one-off bonus out of his "best and final offer" money. The union would be stupid to consider it.

Sundays have been scrapped for current staff. ( I was wrong, thanks for striking)
The first sick instance is the same as now.
All they need to work on is later start times (maybe get the whole country to start and finish at the same time ,say 730 for FT staff?)
Look into the banking of hours, lets be honest everyone, Mondays and Tuesday are a joke now so I fully agree that maybe a weekly banking of hours is needed ( short days mon/tues, long days weds/thurs etc)
Then we just need to get on with it before nobody has a job.
