Work your hours and go home, simple.
People who post things like this just show their total ignorance for people with stress and other mental health issues. If you are able to "work your hours and go home, simple" then good for you, but not everyone is mentally strong enough to do so.
People who suffer stress will often go to a manager to say they cannot finish but instead of leaving it at that they offer to go the extra thus taking the responsibility from the manager who is only too happy to not have to make a decision. I speak from experience but what I did was to go to the manager and tell him and say what is your decision? It took all my concentration and courage to keep my mouth shut and not offer him a way out. It worked for me and I never worried about it again. I hope this helps someone.
After several of this and then snide and sarcastic comments from other posties insinuating I was lazy, i got out of RM a few months ago. A few managers listened but the attitude from all but one of them was that I was being lazy and awkward.

But my point remains, saying "work your time" just shows ignorance. It would be less ignorant to just say nothing

Well it is up to the management to staff the office and ensure clearance on a daily basis it is not the fact the the postman/postwoman controls it is a failure in leadership and planning and communication by management or lack of!

i think no matter what the majority of us all still have pride in our performance and it is deviating and frustrating to see our frames piling up ,with undelivered mail especially when you see the knobheads coming in 2 hrs early (for no pay) and running around. I now do the job as it should be done , breaks , working to my times , using a trolley and doing proper van checks. I was off last year with stress and depression for 4 months, its really not worth it guys. If its getting to you get to the doctors and get signed off !!

I am not saying otherwise. The point I am making and that few people seem to be able to comprehend, is that some people suffering from mental health issues struggle to handle the daily mental battle of having to approach a manager to explain to them something that should be fairly obvious to everyone that the workload is too great for the time given.

Some people have no issues with this, and some people have big issues with it. Those that don't have an issue need to understand that others may struggle. My experience is that the average postie has no interest in anything that doesn't directly effect them, and they would much rather see people struggle than to offer any help.

Saving my own mental health was a prime reason for me quitting after nearly 10 years, so I didn't just give up and walk away. I pushed myself too far for too long and got out just before I totally broke. By the end around 40% of the problem came from ignorant colleagues and 60% from management. I wish posties well in their current "battle" with the company, but it will only stand a chance of being won if the workforce unites and I rarely saw that. Failure to understand that others may be 'different' to you and may think differently certainly doesn't show any form of being united.

Agreed but at some point you have to draw the line, not in a spiteful way, but just say this is the amount of work I can manage and anything else just really isn’t your problem. who you perceive as your customers is different to royal mails, get your head round that and move on

THIS!!! And here's the thing, with the new executive action there will be a lot more posties facing longer walks and more pressure. Older, calmer hands need to support those who are concerned/stressed/timid/anxious.

Same here. Delivering mail all week dated from the start of December.
Just work to rule, by the book. Finish on time. That’s your job. Their job is to worry about a clear office. You really shouldn’t care anymore especially given how Royal Mail have treated us these last couple years.

But a lot of the older, calmer hands will be leaving very soon having gotten VR.

I sympathise with those who struggle with it but in my experience you’ve only got two choices: either learn to say no or have an utter s**t job. Sympathy doesn’t get you far with your typical RM managers; some are nice but they still do operate a “get what you can outta ‘em” and the ones that have learnt to say no don’t get bothered anymore.

Exactly, this is the easiest xmas ever.

Work to time and go home.

It's the job I've always wanted it to be and the job it should've always been if RM were a well run business.

That was my experience also. Had to step in when the “Culture” was being tried on afew junior members in our office though. Shameful way to run a business in 2022.

I sympathise with anyone who struggles to stand up to management. They are rife for exploiting the newer ones in my office. Funnily enough, a few 'no' and 'that'll cost 6 hours' and they get left alone.

But it is now a job, not a service. It's hard to differentiate from that and to not feel like you're letting the customers down.

I was a “the mail must get through guy”
Have found once you get to the point of just not caring, it does get easier.
I have taken the example of Team Simon & the board, they don’t care, why should I!
