Aren’t the ‘10,000 strike breakers’ really just the people who aren’t in the union and would therefore be sacked if they went on strike?
Non union members who take part in industrial action can't be sacked.
If you are not in the union you do not have to go to work on a strike day.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Any employee can go on strike with a balloted action and have the same protections.

Union member or not

That’s a piece of information that is not common knowledge. People I work with were in a hurry to join the union before the IA started so that they could take part 😁

Yeah, power to the people, vive la revolution, wave the Red Flag and all the rest of that old cliche'd nonsense, but the public aren't going to be "galvanised" any time soon by this strike.
No post today, parcels coming by DPD, WGAF really? It's been eclipsed by the important news-worthy strikes by Border Force, nurses and paramedics, and if that Capitalist devil-incarnate ST was to resign tomorrow, there'd be another along by next week.
Just too many Wolfie Smiths around still.

Exactly, People hoping for public opinion to save us at this stage is just fantasy. Said the same as you month's ago, too many other sectors are going through struggles for us to be given sympathy & rightly so. I don't think we are anywhere near as important as nurse's.

Same old crap on here blaming Simon. When are they gonna understand that RM's day's were numbered when the government sold it off.

The solution is simple. Get a skill, work for yourself & you won't get knocked from pillar to post in the future or play the blame game your whole life & pass that same attitude to your kids. Bloody Forrest Gump lot on here 🤦🏾‍♂️

Have to say striking over the Christmas pressure and stil gaining public support is a fallacy.
Small independent companies desperate for sales to survive after the pandemic.

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas have been an utter failure. These propaganda pictures of clear offices and Mail Centre will be expoited by Royal Mail. Despite the strikes they still delivered Christmas. Not to mention employees being over a grand out of pocket.

What exactly have the strikes achieved so far?

You have to ask yourself why trade disputes in the EU are settled very quickly with little disruption?.
This Us and Them mentality has to end, first identified in the Hooper government inquiry of 2009 into Royal Mail.

What is needed, just like in the EU is a senior Trade Union representatives on the board of these major companies when decisions are made. But unlike the EU, we have a hostile Executive towards trade unions as well as fully privatised industries driven for profit and exploitation.

Flag waving and demonstrations simply no longer cut the mustard with yet more trade union reform on the way. People need to grow some and say enough is enough. Am talking direct action and civil disobedience that change government policy such as the Poll Tax demonstrations, not mouthing of on social media campaigns from the armchair. The French will not stand for it yet the British are gutless when it comes to civil disobedience.

They need to know that if we lose this dispute they will get shifted every inch as hard as us . That's if they are able to keep their jobs .

Created a job now that to be honest I don’t want anymore and will only put less and less effort into, watching this shambles of a negotiation unfold and knowing it’s all going to have to be done again in 18 months regardless of what or what isn’t agreed in the short term. A demoralising period and now a workforce with morale on the floor that I doubt will ever return, now we officially know how little we are valued.
Totally agree with this. :Applause

As one said to me yesterday, what's the point? I'm just gonna end up doing the work anyway either coming in on my days off or it will be sat waiting for me on the other side of the strike days, all the while getting comments and looks from the public about ruining Christmas, the company still has the public's money.

Well what can I say this is a forum about RM but we have people on here who are telling us we are wrong to defend the terms conditions that were fought for by our great grandfather's. And these people show up and say the door is over there nice and accuse us of militancy if it made a hill of beans difference I park a tank on ST's head but it will not work. We need a resolution not some "Advice on here" by people who obviously don't WORK in RM thanks for the advice and put it in my to do list in 2099. When I get my pension in 120 years as with the way with which things are going!

Just pay us all off with the £1.7billion and whatever billions the Vesa dude has.... that will get rid of the union and you can bring in slave labour owner drivers. Maybe some current employees would stay and be owner drivers for you - maybe they could buy one of the better vans off you for a discounted price. Now you have no more pensions to contribute to, no more sick pay, no more vans to pay for, no more annual leave, you can reduce the size of your units as you won't need as much car parking space....

Just pay everyone off a decent amount.
Not going to happen. ST is just going to sack everyone using the 12 weeks rule. Your new self employed owner driver contract will turn up in a Tracked 48 box in the New Year. Pay =50 p a parcel, 7 days a week , Cover your holidays, No Sick Pay, No Pension, sign on the ....................... :wave

And how many do you think would sign such a contract, knowing they’d also have to buy a van? 1 in 20? 1 in 30?

The fallout and shortfall of those taking up RMs contract, plus we hardly have people beating a path to the depot for jobs with current terms means the business would collapse.

I feel over time they might do such a thing, similar to Parcelforce. But it would be brought in gradually over many months/years.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
