Latest update 23,24 strikes go ahead

Post by Martin Walsh »

Further to the update this afternoon, we can confirm that within hours of receiving our letter, Royal Mail Group have rejected our attempt to resolve the dispute.

The strikes planned for 23/24 December will go ahead.

We remain available for further talks facilitated by ACAS

Can the CWU explain exactly what Royal Mail want, what changes are they going to push through....

Do they want X % of staff gone?

Do they want owner-driver mail/letter deliveries?

Do they want all 100,000+ Posties gone and replaced.

Does the CWU know exactly what Royal Mail's aims are?

The union has to stop giving Thompson and his gang opportunities that allow them to spit in our faces.
We have blinked several times already, make this the last one.

There is plenty of media attention and Royal Mail have written to the CWU twice over the last few days asking us to call off the strikes without any pre conditions.

Instead we listed the conditions if Royal Mail agreed would make us consider standing down the strikes. They cover all the main principles of the strike. It is no surprise that they have rejected them but now they will be under pressure from the media especially due to 1.7 billion fund they have and son can afford the deal.

Remember there has to be an agreement in the end and Royal Mail know they cannot introduce their revision plan or their financial recovery plan.

The PE are discussing the next strike dates and obviously we also have to prepare for the new ballot.

More will be revealed in due course.

Why did they reveal the 1.7billion ? What's their motive there?

Norris they threatened to sue the telegraph for printing the figure.

They have revealed that they can afford the back bay and to change their pans but this is about smashing the union in order to have free reign to lower members terms and conditions.
