23/24 December
If the strike dates for the above get cancelled ( goodwill gesture or whatever) who’s going to leave the union, obviously we can argue if the strikes have done anything or not but the general feeling I’m getting from mates at work is that their leaving they’ve had enough.Problem is imagine RM without any union, I know they’ve not got the clout they once had but could you possibly imagine it ? Also being such a large union they need every subscription to keep going so say 100’s left that probably would impact them greatly too.
Any thoughts ?

Re: 23/24 December
I'd never leave the Union no matter what.
It's not like the Subs are huge and it's the only thing that makes some feral managers back off.
It might not be perfect and some reps might be corrupt but on the whole I will always support it.
It's really nice when you're up sh1t creek for whatever reason that someone tries to help you.
It's still worth it for me.

They will only be called off if we get an agreement not for a good will gesture.

Re: 23/24 December
I left the union earlier this year after lash up with revision and going against our views and the s**t show that was holiday pay have rejoined after changing roles but it’s a personal choice I’m not militant support the strikes but only in union now if I drop a bollock or need representation people who aren’t in the union still get all the same things and deals

Re: 23/24 December
You need to stay in the union especially with what’s going on at the moment, any manager knows who’s in the union and if you’re in the union they tread carefully with you in my experience and any problems you just threaten them with a union rep and they should it back down. Union power should not be weak and especially at this current moment in time with the crap everywhere at the moment we need to stay strong and together

Re: 23/24 December
Think I read somewhere on here a post from Martin Walsh saying the PEC won't stand the strikes down unless an agreement is made, not just on compulsory redundancies, but other things as well .. As for being a union member, best thing I ever did!! I might leave RM sometime in the future, but while I'm still here, I won't leave the union!

Re: 23/24 December
I would be very unhappy if the strike dates were cancelled, but I would never think of leaving the union. I've got no interest in goodwill gestures, or playing nicely with someone who wants to destroy what, whether anyone in the wider world realises or cares, is a public service. On a personal level, the union locally has helped me out with certain issues, so I think a degree of loyalty is due. I think anyone who fails to support the union at this time is effectively voting for their own future misery.

Scoobydo79 this is a discussion forum where people discuss stuff, hypothetical or not. If you don't agree with them then discuss it, flame wars are no good for anyone.scoobydo79 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 09:40But Your supposing they are not. Why ? They are on or have You been told officially otherwise?
Telling people not to discuss stuff on a discussion form goes against the very principle of what forums are about.

In essence you told him not to discuss something on a discussion forum. You may disagree with him but you didn't explain, in a respectful way, why.scoobydo79 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 10:11You asked for our thoughts and You got them. What’s the problem?
