If 40 went off in one day I'd be more worried about what's going round? The plague? If this is what has happened, the company will probably take it as unlawful industrial action therefore that's why people are being told they're not being paid.

Not unheard off this time of year. Bouts of something like Norovirus could wipe your office out for a week.

Threats of not paying staff for stress related absences have been made. "We will judge each individual absence on it's merits".
If you're ill and feel you can't cope with work, do not go into work with the extra stress of not being paid if you don't.

If you have a sickline from doc not much they can do.

Absolutely because the agreement says all absences are assumed as being genuine.

It's just another management tactic.

He hasn't indicated if he works in a Mail Center or a large Delivery office, so definitely possible..
large delivery office. 9 off Monday on our sector alone. Had my return to work and line manager said they were instructed to make those calls, or they would be sent home themselves. People who were struggling went to union rep and were told to go lie down for a bit. seeing as there was little support it seemed feasible those threats had merit. After all revisions and agreements down the years its hard to know where you stand. it has caused huge grief and resentment this week in a usually productive office

But surely if you’re Ill your ill and can self cert for 7 days then get a doctors note after that ?

These managers make it up as they go along. As somebody said once ‘they are the equivalent of somebody starting at McDonalds and then becoming manager’.

We were told this weeks ago, far as I know everyone who's been sick since has been paid. Just another bullying tactic.

i was over the worst of it, and ok to be in. not the case for others though yesterday and today, there were some grim sights even the managers were uncomfortable with, really felt like a new low

This is the future if we don't make that stand now feel sorry for those involved in this latest incident of BREAKING THE LAW OF THE LAND but we should stand for our rights and call out malpractice for what it is.
