Even the RMT had to reballot its members to continue strike action

This is disingenuous. The reballot was due to the 6mth ballot period being spent. There's only 40,000 RMT, members, 1/3 of the CWU membership, surely it would be a lot easier to sack them, it hasn't happened tho. I think it's about now you tell us how bad the CWU.

Wouldn't be easier to sack them, it would effectively be much harder due to the time it takes to train new drivers

RMT doesn't represent drivers. I think they're ASLEF.

We should probably all stop flapping about the dates of 23rd and 24th. In my mind these are not real strike dates and ultimately won’t happen, they are just there to put some more pressure on. If Royal Mail have not budged on their current position(let’s be real they won’t have) by the time these dates roll around then the CWU will cancel them for some good publicity, saying we are the saviours of Xmas with a vocational sense of purpose etc etc.

If the union cancels these strike dates to get some good publicity for the mostly thick, tory voting halfwits that we endure in this country, I will cancel my subs and find a new job. We should be all out, general strike, the two weeks before xmas.

Exactly what I was about to say. If talks haven't went well today. Call an all out indefinately for 2 weeks time.

The legal and PR nightmare that would ensue would be a disaster for RM
Never mind the logistics,admin nightmare on top

It also assumes they can go forward without any staff bar the agency and about 10,000 strike breakers. They maybe trying to get rid of a few of us, but do actually require a workforce.

That's just not realistic is it? I'm one that has never considered crossing despite money being tight, but two weeks without pay would result in me defaulting on my mortgage in January and literally having my wife and child starve over Christmas. Solidarity ain't paying the bills. Have a pop at the union all you wish, but they have to strike the balance between effective strike action and pushing the workforce further than most of us can realistically go.

Royal Mail know the strike will cease after this 12 week period and could be tempted to sit out action until it reaches that deadline. I hope I'm wrong but the language of Thompsons letters and in all the comms I've seen suggests to me that RM are secretly hoping that workers will return to work IF the CWU have another vote.

So the CWU really should be having that ballot NOW. Don't delay or make any excuses because there is a rally to organise in London on Friday. Make it legal and watertight because we don't want anyone being made an example of or being suspended for unlawful strike action. Against a ruthless CEO we should not for one minute consider the strike action to be finished by Xmas if the negotiations are not favourable.

If you factor in the time needed to run a fresh ballot (to go through the proper process so as to not give RM any fodder to get a ballot thrown out in court), how many days gap are we going to have between when the second ballot expires and when a new ballot could kick in? My fear is that in that gap, RM will whack in a load of EA
