I think you start on a temporary contract, I got a 6 month and my permanent came through about 4 months after it finished. COM told me not to ask for a permanent or they just send another temporary through

First 6 months temporary before being put on a permanent contract?

It took me 4 years before I was put on a permanent contract and then I kept having to badger the manager to change it.

It doesn't matter who is paying what, the reality is, we are quite well paid. I have applied for Tesco and sainsbury delivering groceries, who better to employ than a postie with years of service and turned down flat within minutes of applying. I have applied to Aldi and Lidl also, not even intereviews. These are just four of the many jobs I have applied for. An employer looks at us and thinks, why do they want to give up all that for this massive paycut.

I would certainly have all the qualities they need, but obviously they don't think so, so it doesn't matter who is paying what, they cannot employ 115,000 ex postman.

The public coverage of posties striking will not do those applying for other jobs much good I am afraid in the current climate. Whilst I totally agree with what posties are fighting for, I can now see things from both sides having been a postie for just over 25 years, left last year, and now working for a company employing around 30 people where we are all treated like human beings and not numbers.

Unfortunately, prospective employers do not see "the other side", and therefore only see one "public" side, with people standing on picket lines eating bacon rolls and playing music etc.

One thing I do know though, if they could focus beyond that then they will see just what grafters and assets ex posties actually would be to them.

Don’t let people tell you there isn’t jobs. I know a few lads that literally packed in on a Monday and started elsewhere on a Tuesday. One of them is in a warehouse opposite RM.

Amazon are always recruiting they could probably employ all us and more besides.
