Boss told us today over 5 minutes late they will deduct 15 minutes pay and if late too many times its a conduct code,i'm sure these tools just make it up as they go along.
Sounds pretty much like every other firm where employees punch the clock then. Having installed the system it would be naive to think RM won't use it to keep a check on time-keeping, and that includes "punishing" the habitual late-comers.

Sports direct eventually got hammered for similar, though minimum wage played a part in it. getting paid to 0000 but not being able to leave until 0015 because of security nonsense, meant they were underpaid 15 mins every single day. Rounding is somewhat risky, especially when it isn't remotely accurate.

Why the f**k would I bother even showing up at 0806 if I knew I wasn't going to start being paid until 0815 at this point? I'd just (and have) chill out, check my phone etc till 0814.

It's hard to find the exact words and I gave up doing so, but any rounding must be fair, that much is clear. So if 0801 counts as starting at 0815, 2001 should count as finishing at 2015. It wouldn't be hard to agree to a rounding process that was fair, even if the rounding was held over a week (so, clocked in 2 mins early 5 days, 10 mins, clocked out late 5 mins 1 day, 0 any other day, -5mins pay for the week. Or any other fair implementation.)

Minor edit: To put it another way, unfairness will result in suspicion, and being silly with over-penalising will result in gaming. Accuracy is the only truly fair option, though some rounding can be accomodated.

You misunderstood me. I'm taking about the time it would take if everyone did it on their own PDA. It would take an age to actually get your PDA in a morning.
You're right I did misunderstand you. In your example it would of course take a long time for everyone to collect PDAs before scanning in. Good job we've got the fixed scanner, I think the PDA Option is for those Duties that are allowed to finish out on the streets.

We've got none of those types of duties and we've been encouraged NOT to scan out using the PDA in the yard as it will throw up incorrect data. :cuppa

I agree with Tman it's the same system as used in other firms that have been using clocking In/Out for at least the last 50 years!

It becomes obvious from reading some posts that a lot of Posties have never worked in any other job. Hence the Shock/Horror everytime something's suggested that's been standard practice in other industries for decades! :cuppa

You've missed the point that arriving late means you're penalised by losing 15 minutes of pay even though you actually arrived at 08.06.
Then hanging back until 08.14 just means you're very late.
Late is late, only in RM would some try and argue the toss.

I wonder if they can rig the SISO to only work when it's got a data cable attached to it and isn't running off any phone or wi-fi signals

He hasnt missed the point at all, he means if you are late anyway and going to be docked 15 minutes regardless you would as well go in at 8:14 than 8:06

As you say, late is late
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Back in the day I worked at a place where you had to clock in and out and was docked 15 minutes if you were over 2 minutes late. Having to use public transport to get to and from work this meant this happened quite often.
I used to sit around read the paper and drink tea until 8.15. It really peed the boss off who would always get quite irate and insist that I should be working. ' I will work when I am getting paid" was always my reply.

That's the way to deal with. Sit in the canteen until start time :thumbup

I used to do the same, and got the same reaction, why think someone's going to work those 10-15 minutes if you're docking their pay? :cuppa

In theory you shouldn't be on the premises unless you're clocked in, and in places I've worked you can't get on the premises anyway without going through the clock station.
Sitting in the canteen doing nothing when you're already late to start work seems a guaranteed way to get on the wrong side of management. Not a great way to have a good working relationship with the boss.

Well in our mc once you get through turnstile after scanning your pass its a 5 min walk to clock in so how do you not be on the premises.

Just scan in on your starting time and scan out when you've finished. Somedays are lighter and you get finished a bit early. It's not our fault. You can only do what your meant to.

Isn't it the same principle as the numpties that come in early now and work for free?
