Re: Non-drivers
I agree with the allowance part, but considering we delivered 8bn worth of letters up to march this year, not the last sentence; you don't need a driving license to deliver letters.

Re: Non-drivers
I'm a none driver, I dont have responsibility for the van or van checks but do as much as my driver partner, if your loops are done correctly then the none drivers should be a bit bigger to allow the driver to do some big parcels within the loops ,however when we have a lot of parcels we do them togetherpriority102 wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 16:25I personally think that drivers should re-start to receive some sort of allowance to reflect the difference in their extra responsibilites over non drivers, and I am shocked that the CWU are not on to this.
Given that drivers have to undertake a competence test, legal vehicle checks, signing vans in and out, personally responsible for any speeding or other fines, any RM bumps have to be declared to their own car insurers who more than likely will increase premiums, the hassle of explaining minor bumps to management who deem you guilty until proven innocent, etc. In addition, drivers have to run round doing the large parcels that non drivers can't carry, out of the way specials etc. It's an absolute pain.
This is not a job for non drivers anymore.

Re: Non-drivers
According to Simon we are a parcel company that just do letters on the side. Non drivers will need bicycles for Sunday LATs.

Re: Non-drivers
Agreed, but unless you are on a walk within easy walking distance of the office and using either a golf trolley or a HCT, you are then reliant on a driver to transport you to further afield walks. Firms and rurals are out of the question.
Hence why I believe that drivers should be recognised for the extra responsibility they have every day, currently for no extra pay.

Saying that there is no place in Royal Mail delivery for people who dont drive is a nonsense.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Non-drivers
About 50% of walks in my office are HCT duties, 10% are the walker side of van shares.
Obviously there needs to be a work force with some flexibility to cover whatever whenever but it would, in my opinion, be unreasonable to expect the less than a handful of non-drivers to start driving or get out. Especially when there are individuals who were recruited before they even held a provisional license

Works both ways seen plenty lazy drivers sit and watch non drivers finish their larger loops and not lift a finger to helpSMS1969 wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 14:22I don’t think the fixation is with barrow walks-they are hard and I’ve done a few.
It’s the lazy ones who sit in the van and don’t help at all with parcels and SD’s. Drivers also have to empty post boxes and keep the van and it’s contents safe. Most non drivers are fine, there are a few though who want to do the minimum required.

Re: Non-drivers
They have already done this about 6 to 8 years ago if any ad says you needed a driving licence it will be in your contract.postieblueshirt wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 19:23whatever happens i bet at some point contracts will be changed that will include driving,The legal side of that?who knows but i could see it happening.

Re: Non-drivers
I know, it’s happened to me when I’ve been in the passenger seat. Most of my loops give fcuk all help to the driver, I can’t understand these revisions sometimes. But this is RM and the computer says it does.thefox wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 19:10Works both ways seen plenty lazy drivers sit and watch non drivers finish their larger loops and not lift a finger to helpSMS1969 wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 14:22I don’t think the fixation is with barrow walks-they are hard and I’ve done a few.

You must have stacks of parcels then! The driver should deliver them first before they go on their walk, giving you a short rest if you get back first ( if you also have a key ).

Ok, people keep going on about this so I'm going to play ...postieblueshirt wrote: ↑20 Oct 2022, 19:23whatever happens i bet at some point contracts will be changed that will include driving,The legal side of that?who knows but i could see it happening.
Let's say for arguments sake half the workforce are non-drivers - RM tear up their old contracts, try to get them to sign new ones with ability to drive included, with the threat of dismissal if they don't - half the workforce refuse - there goes the USO BIG STYLE, not to mention the legal ramifications...
As an aside, the only P&O worker to take the company to an industrial tribunal won a 5 figure sum!
