Non-drivers

I see it a lot on here, more so than with management - what is the fixation with non-drivers? They work just as hard as anyone else; I've done barrow, rural, 2 man vans, and from my experience, it is a lot harder on a hct walk ..

A lot of it comes from resentment because unlike non drivers they themselves were employed when it was a requirement to drive or because they chose to drive for Royal Mail when park and loop came in, even when they didnt need to and wish they hadnt

Its not non drivers fault that they were employed with a contract with no driving requirements

I don’t think the fixation is with barrow walks-they are hard and I’ve done a few.
It’s the lazy ones who sit in the van and don’t help at all with parcels and SD’s. Drivers also have to empty post boxes and keep the van and it’s contents safe. Most non drivers are fine, there are a few though who want to do the minimum required.

I started on a bike - wish those days would return, all be it on an electric... As for lessons, RM had their own driving instructors who would train you, then put you through a test, I should know, I was one of those learners, but I'm going back 25/ 30 years!

I still get my £6 per week.

Should still get it. A driver in the partnership is taking more personal risk. If they have an accident they have to declare to their own personal insurance which will possibly hike their own insurance up. The non driver does not.
How are people without a license going to work Sundays too?

How are people without a license going to work Sundays too?

I may be wrong, but I don't think they will, unless they get them putting out/prepping d2ds, logging sat returns in ...

none of these problems are the non drivers fault

I personally think that drivers should re-start to receive some sort of allowance to reflect the difference in their extra responsibilites over non drivers, and I am shocked that the CWU are not on to this.

Given that drivers have to undertake a competence test, legal vehicle checks, signing vans in and out, personally responsible for any speeding or other fines, any RM bumps have to be declared to their own car insurers who more than likely will increase premiums, the hassle of explaining minor bumps to management who deem you guilty until proven innocent, etc. In addition, drivers have to run round doing the large parcels that non drivers can't carry, out of the way specials etc. It's an absolute pain.

Sorry to say it, but this is not a job for non drivers anymore.
