Iv already said I won’t be going on any more strikes after this Thursday and Friday.
Iv had lots of abuse because of it already, people refusing to work with me (even though I have/will do the 4 originally planned) and the odd comment.
But I don’t actually care. My wife is seriously ill and cannot work and I have 3 young children to feed and bills to pay (ever increasing to pay - even more when the energy caps go up next month) and my priority will always be my family.
We have no family near us to support us and I refuse to put my children’s well being and our house on the line.
Interestingly I went to the picket line last week and they all said “ooh you think you can’t afford to go on strike but you certainly can’t afford not to...” yet they are all in their 60s, houses paid off and no kids to look after.
So I’ll hope for a decent negotiation but if not my decision has been made.

Young family man myself, just do what I do, go down to the picket line for a few hours, spend the rest of the day with your family, keep a tally of the days you’ve lost in pay, take on a little more debt, and promise to yourself that next year I have to work X amount of days off, to be even stevens. No biggie.

Or just pick up overtime to make up for it. Day off, or an hour extra a day, and you're even.

I'm not doing it personally, but I understand why some do. It's better than crossing the line after all.

The issue has been dealt with, but if someone sends you a PM that is offensive or even just s**t stirring then please use the report feature. Part of the agreement members agree to on joining RMC is to not abuse the PM system, if people do, and they are reported we can take appropriate action.

Trust me there is a lot of us in similar if not worse positions. We knew these strikes were coming. Could you have not worked four of your days off to make up the loss? As I've told people at work, if you're really going to struggle and your rdo doesn't fall on a strike day, work it that week and think of it as a swap of rdo. Kids are back in school this week, so hopefully its easier for you to do that

Absolutely your children's well-being are your priority but don't put yourself in a position where you'll dread coming in to work, maybe even more than you already do

Trust me there is a lot of us in similar if not worse positions. We knew these strikes were coming. Could you have not worked four of your days off to make up the loss? That’s a really good point, imagine having to be the “strike breaker” forever? A bloke at ours moved from another office cos it was so bad there. He’s on strike this time. But the point is he “spoilt” his old office so that he could keep his holiday, sky sports subscription, and his takeaways.

If Royal Mail get their way , you won’t be seeing your kids and the pay offer will mean you’ll be taking a massive pay cut.

I’m in the same boat but have to manage my own chronic illness but I’ll be in strike as long as needed.

No, im genuinely scared of losing big contracts and having no job at all when its getting rather scary out there bill wise. Id sooner have a crap job than no job.

You don't think that the board will, in reality, be equally scared of losing big contracts and the company ging under? If that happpens then they will have massively failed the shareholders that they are employed to protect and ensure that they get a good return from their investment.

At the moment there are more job vacancies than job seekers. If you are happy to have a crap job then there are already plenty of such vacancies. I want to keep this a decent job with decent wages and decent terms and conditions. I am prepared to fight for that. If RM goes under as a result then so be it.

I am confident that I can very easily get another job if it came to it. You claim to have worked in other jobs, so you should also be confident in yourself that you won't simply be out of work. You come across as someone who is seriously risk averse - someone who won't fight for anything at all in case you end up on the losing side. The problem with that attitude is that you are aslo likely to achieve very little if you aren't prepared to take a risk.

Thankfully most people aren't like you. They are prepared to fight for things that matter to them. You, on the other hand, will simply accept whatever you are offered and be grateful for it. You really are an employers dream.

If we fail at least we say we tried.....
Without this resolve we would all be on minimum wage or zero hour contracts by now....
However the company looks after this dispute sometimes our only option in to stand up and be counted.
