I was talking to a colleague yesterday who is taking VR when Stevenage MC closes.
He said that the MTSF2 agreement finishes in 2013 and that after that it is likely that any redundancies will be on the minimum terms that RM can get away with and it may even be the Govt minimum should they be compulsory. The onset of privatisation will mean that austere terms will be in place to minimise cost when employees leave.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Re: MTSF2 After Privatisation
Not heard official confirmation but its hardly unexpected. TBH I think most are worried about the T&C after privatisation and how TUPE will affect that. Also how T&Cs will be changed once we are no longer covered by TUPE. Hopefully the CWU/CMA have learnt from the CWUs mistakes over the Counters going to WHSmiths. I also hope that they brief reps and members as well, one thing we don't want is to go into privatisation without knowing exactly how it will affect all of us.Budfrog wrote:I was talking to a colleague yesterday who is taking VR when Stevenage MC closes.

I think you are mistaken about MTSF finishing - there seems to be a popular view that MTSF is due to finish in 2013, but I've not seen any proof of it yet.Budfrog wrote:I was talking to a colleague yesterday who is taking VR when Stevenage MC closes.

The BT 2010 agreement introduced a couple of changes to MTSF, first the payment of ETE for 5 years (in certain cases) not 3 and secondly the removal of the two year cost cap for redundancies (which can affect those aged over 55).
The BT2010 agreement says that both these changes only last till 2013. It also says these changes will be reviewed late in 2012.
I have yet to see anything that says MTSF itself finishes in 2013.
As for what may happen post privatization - your guess is as good as mine, I would expect all agreements to remain, until Royal Mail wants to re-negotiate them, the same as now.
I suppose the future of MTSF is likely to be discussed as part of the talks that were announced last week on the business plan etc.

How optomistic are you about that review?vanman wrote:The BT 2010 agreement introduced a couple of changes to MTSF, first the payment of ETE for 5 years (in certain cases) not 3 and secondly the removal of the two year cost cap for redundancies (which can affect those aged over 55).

Belle,
Your guess is as good as mine as to what the outcome of any review will bring.
However, I do believe that RM needs MTSF (or something very similar), to be able to make the changes to the business it wants.
Time will tell.

I agree with you vanman the level of changes that RM want to bring in they really need to to have the work force with them, and MTSF and its benefits along with other "benefits" all would help in this.vanman wrote:Belle,

However, we all know how high handed RM are and already they are erroding the perceived benefits of being a postie, and as a result they are losing the goodwill of the ordinary workers. Its not a trend I can see being reversed anytime soon.
