Yeah, it really sucks for the people it's happened to. Some of them are really hard workers too and this is the thanks they get for it.pieoftheday wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 19:01Its crap either way, one of my mates was made up temporary full time but knew it could be taken away at any time.Ferrari5825 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 18:53It wasn't O.T they were on, they were on temporary contracts, which is why they have been changed back. Especially when there are hard working people who have striked all through this, just to have their contracted hours taken from them (in some cases, almost half of the hours they have now.)

Re: New Strike date
This just screams utterly pointless. One day is not going to do anything looks like union are just doing something for the sake of it. One day RM will not care

Its another stupid RM decision, we all know that full time workers are neededFerrari5825 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 19:06Yeah, it really sucks for the people it's happened to. Re: New Strike date
The clarity/wording from CWU on this is woeful - a lot of confusion from colleagues about what day/what time we are striking.
Even the BBC have us as their 4th story with the headline ‘Royal Mail workers to strike again on 16 February’ and the main article says ‘About 115,000 workers will strike from 12:30pm on Thursday 16 February, until 12.30pm on Friday 17 February.’

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

You realise that the 14-day notice means any strike called after the re-ballot cannot be before the 1st week of March?david1456uk wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 17:20Total waste the union would be much better saving their ammo and getting a big fat yes vote through. Already tou can see the reaction on here .
RM are already forcing stuff through via Executive Action. How much more imposed will they have completed in four weeks’ time? THEN you might as well say ‘what’s the point, now?’

Don’t really see the point of a one day strike during a quiet period.
Oh well.

Re: New Strike date
Not really - as someone who works shifts, all of the previous strike dates have worked this way.HTPostman wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 19:22The clarity/wording from CWU on this is woeful - a lot of confusion from colleagues about what day/what time we are striking.

If your duty starts during the strike hours, you don't come in. If you're working 6-2 then you're already at work so you finish your shift and strike on Friday, as that shift starts during the strike hours.
If you're working 2-10, the start o your shift falls during the strike hours on the Thursday, so you strike on Thursday and work on Friday.

You win by playing smart by not just losing members a full data pay for nothing. The members sat on the fence who have not sent their ballots in will see this and they could vote no .Look at the public they don't care about rm anymore .S marter move would be conveying to the members a more joined up plan not one day strikes that will do f all .lots of smarter ways to bring this sorry lot down.

Re: New Strike date
Would of hurt RM more if we striked a couple days earlier on Valentine's Day. Flower companies would be bailing on RM. I'm still gonna strike but the union aren't hurting RM at all. Mother's Day in March need's to be a strike day on the list.

Re: New Strike date
I think it was this or do nothing (in response to the executive action without using the Industrial Framework as ST had agreed to not even that long ago), and doing nothing would have looked much worse.
Hopefully when it comes to the post-ballot strikes they will have a better strategy, e.g a week out at a time with four or five weeks rest.

Re: New Strike date
david1456uk thé point of setting a strike day is that it creates a climate of uncertainty for bulk-posting businesses who use Royal Mail. If they don’t know whether the strikes are going to continue, they will potentially threaten to switch contracts to rival couriers like Evri. RM cannot keep haemorrhaging customers indefinitely. It’s no good Simon Thompson winning the war if there’s no customers (posting customers) left at the end of the battle

Re: New Strike date
How many customers are really going to jump couriers because we're striking on the 17th? The 13th or 14th might well have caused them concerns if they thought Valentines Flowers/cards/presents etc weren't guaranteed to be delivered by the 14th, I can't see many bothering that parcels might be delayed by a day on the 17th.wandle wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 20:23david1456uk thé point of setting a strike day is that it creates a climate of uncertainty for bulk-posting businesses who use Royal Mail. And every Tom, Dick & Harry will be in early on Saturday to clear their duty. What a waste of time & our money. How about banning the overtime? Before you say it can't be done, that's cr*p, everyone knows who is on overtime.

Albeit it's been clarified, but not the best form of communication, from the Communication Union....HTPostman wrote: ↑02 Feb 2023, 19:22The clarity/wording from CWU on this is woeful - a lot of confusion from colleagues about what day/what time we are striking.

Also not sure what this day of action will achieve as many on here have stated.... perhaps to augment " We are still here" campaign?
I am confident there will be a massive Yes vote coming up, coupled with working to time after the implementation of these revisions will be more effective.
