Do we still leave a card on second delivery attempt? Bearing in mind it will have a different QR code to first card.
Yes, it doesn't matter the code takes them to the RM website tracking details for the specific item so either card will take them to the same place
Ok thanks. What happens if you have two parcels for the same address but different names? Do you have to leave/scan a 739 card for each parcel?
I don't - mainly because the PDA picks up both parcels when you scan the first one (from the Scan to Core Route in the office). So one scan of 'No Answer' and one card.
But I was just thinking - suppose if you've got a Special which is 'No answer' and then a normal tracked which you can put in a safe place for the same address then is that two cards or one? - not had it occur yet.

Good question I wondered about that, I haven't encountered it yet, but tbh I've resorted to the same as most in our office these days by going "evri" and dumping stuff between bins so hardly bring anything back these days unless it's a special or signature
As usual with Royal Mail it’s poorly thought out. Lots of HMO properties now days meaning the 739 card doesn’t specify the customer unless scanned. I deliver lots of local collects to a post office and they tell me customers are coming in with 739 cards asking for parcels and there’s lots of confusion . Not everyone has use of a smartphone, especially the older generation.
In the case of HMO or flats with a communal letterbox you're supposed to write the details in the section of the card IE name, flat number etc so they know who it's for.
How are we supposed to know what is and isn’t an airb&b or a hmo , and there’s been no mention of us writing names on the 739 , I thought that was the idea of getting rid of the old ones.

I don't think you need a card for the first "no answer"?
If it's the second attempt then just delete the Tracked item from the PDA and then scan a 739 barcode for the Special, then do the same thing for the Tracked item you're leaving in a safe place.
When the customer gets home they'll have to spend ½ hour trying to work out what you've done from RM's website, assuming it's working!!
Although this is probably another move to "encourage" posties to leave even Specials in safe places, as it's too much hassle if you don't, until one disappears?
We're running low on the new cards already and when they tried to order some more were told there were none and none will be printed until mid September.

There's a rumour in our office that the new 739 cards have been copied by criminals so the QR code goes to a scam website, hence no more new ones at the moment.
Dunno if it's true or not, but our council had to remove them for parking due to it,so there could be some truth in it

If you remember the issues with the barcoded stamps on rollout a few years ago, it looked like someone copied the serial numbers during production and got the counterfeits on the street first.
The QR one the back of the new P739 card is a shortened URL, something like 'http :// link . me / ?nnnnnn' (where ?nnnnnn is a query passing the number on the card to the site). It would be pretty plausible for someone to get in and redirect it to a non-RM full length address, ie a different site. It's why you should never trust shortened URLs!

For that to work somebody is going to have to risk putting 100's of fake 739's through letterboxes in the hope that somebody was expecting a parcel from RM, and so scans the QR code, then enters their bank card details.
With so many video door bells recording every visitor then that seems a big risk to take?

I’m sure one of the local pillars of the community round ours will volunteer. You know the ones, the balaclava wearing inbreds on dirt bikes pulling wheelies in celebration of their family finally discovering fire.
Grumpy lady came in to Callers Office demanding to know where her parcel was delivered to.....claims she was only left a 739 on the first attempt, and was told she needed to bring in the second one. Hadn't got a second one but had an email saying it had been delivered but doesn't know where to.
The Callers Office scanner doesn't get any info from the first 739.
I ended up on my phone to get on the RM website cos there's also no tracking number on the card to put into TES.
Parcel had been safeplaced behind the bin. Not her bin apparently.
Let the callers office and a manager deal with that....not my job, nor is it my circus and monkeys.
