That's a really good question. What about items that have no barcode on them such as do not bends?

There's sheets of stickers with barcodes, you take a sheet with you and use as necessary

You get sticky barcodes to aid with that.

There's stickers with a barcode on so you can safeplace/not delivered non-barcode items

Although I don't get why we don't leave a card for the 1st delivery attempt, as without one then surely the customer just assumes we couldn't be bothered even attempting the 1st delivery?

Yep, a lot of customers grumble at the CSP about how they didn't get a P739 but they did get a message from RM saying it couldn't be delivered, so they assume whoever was on the duty just did a fly-by. I've almost always written a card out on both attempts specifically because it constitutes physical proof of attempted delivery.

As usual with Royal Mail it’s poorly thought out. Lots of HMO properties now days meaning the 739 card doesn’t specify the customer unless scanned. I deliver lots of local collects to a post office and they tell me customers are coming in with 739 cards asking for parcels and there’s lots of confusion . Not everyone has use of a smartphone, especially the older generation.

Yes, it doesn't matter the code takes them to the RM website tracking details for the specific item so either card will take them to the same place

In the case of HMO or flats with a communal letterbox you're supposed to write the details in the section of the card IE name, flat number etc so they know who it's for.

Perhaps it is hidden in a SOP somewhere.

We were told in the briefing by our wpc when the new cards were deployed, no idea why anyone else shouldn't have been, presumably the info was there for him to pass on to us.

Ok thanks. What happens if you have two parcels for the same address but different names? Do you have to leave/scan a 739 card for each parcel?

Perhaps it should have been communicated, we've got a few large houses that have been converted to bedsits or flats that have a single letterbox, it's very obvious that it would be beneficial to write the name or flat number on the card even for someone who really couldn't be arsed as you never know they might ask for redelivery to a collection point etc which would make life easier for them.
