The CWU is not talking about renationalisation. No one acting in any capacity for the CWU can even say the word. Renationalisation is policy, what the members tell the leadership to do. The leadership have taken it upon themselves to defend private profit.Barnacle wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 06:04Laudable aims however, shouldn’t you be lobbying MPs or trying to get elected yourself on that platform, instead of attacking the people, union members, you presumably want to join forces with you?stage3 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:53The self-organisation of workers to fight for their independent interests and take back what is rightfully theirs the profits they produce to fund well paid jobs and decent working conditions not the enrichment of a handful of billionaires and renationalisation of all public utilities under workers control.Barnacle wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:06You have written at length about what you are against, repeatedly. Renationalisation is the CWU’s aim also, splinter groups with the same goal simply fracture the vote and then no one wins.

Renationalisation is a stated aim of the CWU. It is mentioned all the time as a stated aim. Dave Ward mentioned it in his last YouTube interview.tramssirhc wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 08:26The CWU is not talking about renationalisation. Anyone reading this (and the many other similar posts) almost certainly thinks nothing of the kind.
To ask the same question for the 456th time of asking, name one of these PWRFC's geographical locations, and list what achievements they've had.

Martin Walsh claimed today that the employer is worth 8 billion. Have a listen https://youtu.be/N3c8uf0DVHU?si=cS3DCiaJvXK0dXRTWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 18:21The postal industry isn't even in decline. It's a multi-billion pound money spinner

According to Martin Walsh there is no profit in what we do https://youtu.be/N3c8uf0DVHU?si=cS3DCiaJvXK0dXRTWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:50The CWU is not saying there's no profit in what we do.tramssirhc wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:01who we are and what we do'? It's the postal industry, with postal workers providing the labour that makes the profit. Only the CWU could tell those workers there's no profit in what they're doing yet remain silent about the millions paid out to the bosses in wages.
They are saying there's no sustainable profit in the way we do it.
I would argue all day long that the way both management and the union intend to resolve that is riddled with flaws and potential catastrophe but the fact that something has to change is undeniable.

No, you misunderstood. The subtext of what Martin Walsh said was: it is shocking that the current board have put the company in a position where it will only break even. In other words, they are running a company that could be profitable, into the ground.tramssirhc wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 15:46According to Martin Walsh there is no profit in what we do https://youtu.be/N3c8uf0DVHU?si=cS3DCiaJvXK0dXRTWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:50The CWU is not saying there's no profit in what we do.tramssirhc wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:01who we are and what we do'? And we all see ample evidence of that every day.

I've not misunderstood. This is an industry worth billions that pays its bosses millions. Martin Walsh is silent about that and repeats the attacks of OFCOM and the industry.Barnacle wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 16:09No, you misunderstood. Are you sure you have any idea how business works, the generally accepted theory is that they make profit. Now which business give s its profits to the workers.......... i am sure you will think of one, and even if we were renationalised what makes you believe we would benefit. Profits would go back into the treasury.tramssirhc wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 20:01'who we are and what we do'? It's the postal industry, with postal workers providing the labour that makes the profit. Maybe in some communist regime they give it to the workers........ no wait they don't do that either.
So what exactly do you stand for because there's no utopia where we get the profits that i can see.

So we're all imagining the piles of trays of mail and the letters spilling out of frames? This last puff of breath we keep getting told to expect doesn't look any nearer to us than it did 20 years ago. Do a delivery, don't listen to the lies from above. There are busy and quiet days on a heavier level than they used to be given the vastly increased lengths of walks, so don't spout rubbish about need to change when the change has been made all along. What they want to do now is make more money by overloading and overexerting us and the union needs to shut up telling us to embrace this change and represent us by straight up opposing it.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025, 18:21The postal industry isn't even in decline. You might be, I don't know.
You might just be a drama queen.
But you don't speak for "all", nobody on this site does.
There are no piles of trays of mail or letters spilling out of frames in my DO from one day's mail. Of course there's staffing issues and failures so it's not always just one day that's in the frame.
I can't imagine your DO is any different.
I do a delivery every working day, a proper town duty not a cushy rural.
There's a lot of bullshit spread by management but structural mail decline isn't it, it's well documented right across the world, hardly surprising given the move towards paperless billing and obvious to anyone who's been in the job as long as I have. At the peak in the early 2000s we were delivering 20billion letters a year, now it's below 7billion. Phone bills, gas bills, electricity bills, sky mags, all gone, even the bin calendar disappeared this year.
I worked on a revision 15 years ago with a planned call rate of 84%, I worked on another 3 years ago that was planned at 65%, at the moment we're around 52%.
On a personal level I've had about half a dozen addressed items through my door so far this year and I think most of them were from Royal Mail.
It is what it is.

It is imaginary in the sense that your description of it as the "postal industry" makes no sense.tramssirhc wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 17:36

I agree it's not a communist conspiracy though, there aren't enough real communists left to engage in a conspiracy, there's certainly none on this site although we do have one certified Green Titoist.

No drama, just someone sick to death of being lied to about a reality I see and experience.
I don't speak for everyone on the site but I am bold enough to assume I can speak for plenty, and for plenty of my colleagues given what I read and witness. That is not in line with your claims.
Also resorting to the "but, but, but Europe and everywhere....", not relevant. The paying members' working conditions and real life work experiences are what the union need to be paying attention to, not whatever is going on around the world (if anything even is or if that's all lies too, who knows?).

Re: Cumbernauld delivery office: How the CWU is enforcing Royal Mail’s USO reform pilots
'structural mail decline'. If only we could define the delivery role in those terms. The job is busier than ever. We're about to lose 25% of the jobs. So we're going to be even busier. This 'structural decline' is an excuse to let the industry attack us. Even if there was a decline then that should be the opportunity to make working lives better not worse. Smaller duties, more time to do the job, reduction in the working hours, a better working life. That's not an unreasonable demand. It affects no one, except the profits of the industry. Profit that is taken out of the industry and into the bosses pockets.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025, 18:53You might be, I don't know.
