Yes there are enough letters being sent, jeez what office do you deliver from. Obviously reducing the delivery days will reduce the amount of mail business will want to send,a self fulfilling prophecy, driving business down. Copying someone else's business plan dosnt mean it's good. Service lost, jobs lost, tax lost, spending lost, the way of asset stripping and destroying infrastructure is utterly disgustingmatthew68 wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 14:56Reality is there is not enough letters being sent and if a country like France which is similar to uk have gone to 3 days a week the writing is on the wall for the uk.if they offer tracked 7 days a week then there will still be a service available if needed. Scrapping the Saturday delivery will make not a blind bit of difference, as a year on from doing it, Thompson, or whatever other cretin is in his place, will be back scrounging for more cuts, depleting the service further.

Facts and figures.
Parcels are believe it or not in decline, we are delivering less than two years ago.
Mail has increased over the last two years and strangely D2D not included in that, have increased too.

Oh come on it’s nowhere near what it was and I deliver to a mainly affluent area, I’m not saying I agree but are people really bothered, of course it’s all about saving money but every postal company in the world is making major cutbacks we can’t expect it not to change herepieoftheday wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 19:44Yes there are enough letters being sent, jeez what office do you deliver from. We only talking Saturday mail here . A lot of panic all of a sudden, they’ve been leaving 3 or 4 days worth everywhere by the looks of it and didn’t seem to care about mail. If enough want voluntary redundancy than why should it matter anyway

So they are "cut backs" not improvements then.

Forcing decline is the business model, and I've seen it over 36 years, mail volumes over the same area are not declining, if you say they are its peculiar to your area or you are not a postman of any years or a complete wosnamematthew68 wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 20:35Oh come on it’s nowhere near what it was and I deliver to a mainly affluent area, I’m not saying I agree but are people really bothered, of course it’s all about saving money but every postal company in the world is making major cutbacks we can’t expect it not to change herepieoftheday wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 19:44Yes there are enough letters being sent, jeez what office do you deliver from. I don’t know what a wosname is exactly but you need to stop burying your head in the sand I’ve been almost 20 years and it’s nothing like it used to be just face facts, I don’t like major changes either I’m just pointing out facts, you can’t simply say it’s not declining when clearly it is. You have most things online now plus social media, that’s a huge amount of letters lostpieoftheday wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 20:46Forcing decline is the business model, and I've seen it over 36 years, mail volumes over the same area are not declining, if you say they are its peculiar to your area or you are not a postman of any years or a complete wosnamematthew68 wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 20:35Oh come on it’s nowhere near what it was and I deliver to a mainly affluent area, I’m not saying I agree but are people really bothered, of course it’s all about saving money but every postal company in the world is making major cutbacks we can’t expect it not to change herepieoftheday wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 19:44Yes there are enough letters being sent, jeez what office do you deliver from. Letters are most certainly declining. On the sequencing, just a few years ago about 20 boxes would be considered a big batch, now it's more like 14-16. Also the CSS machines are finished earlier than they used to be. At one time they'd often need break cover, now it's not unusual to get days when they're finished an hour before the operators go to break. Manual letters only need 2-3 people on them for most of the night, it's a similar situation for flats. The amount of boxes that we have to seg at the start of the shift has dropped off a lot (there's more chance of seeing a whole squadron of flying pigs than late shift ever seg single box like they're supposed to).pieoftheday wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 21:54It isnt declining it just isnt, say it is again, go on, it isnt. SDs dropped off massively after the former foreign specials started going though the system as Tracked, even Tracked has dropped off a bit since shops returned to normal after all the Covid restrictions

As of 1 January 2023, customers will be able to choose between 3 types of letters. The distribution of letters and newspapers/magazines, as well as parcel deliveries and local services will continue to operate 6 days a week.
It is fake news.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

100% correct.enskied wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 16:34No the reality is nothing to do with letter volumes, it is about staffing overheads and cutting every corner.matthew68 wrote: ↑26 Dec 2022, 14:56Reality is there is not enough letters being sent and if a country like France which is similar to uk have gone to 3 days a week the writing is on the wall for the uk.if they offer tracked 7 days a week then there will still be a service available if needed. As said before Royal Mail can not deliver the mail with a six day service. So it can not deliver that same mail in five days.
Mail is a red herring, this is all about reducing staff and standards.
