Its also important for you to know that the strike breakers feel the same about people that strike, they are ready to accept the new terms as long as they get paid and there is a job to continue with. The strikers are putting the future of the company at risk, when really, if they dont like the new terms, they should jump ship to a compay that has terms they do like.

For example if Tesco put their cornflakes up to £100 per pack would you complain ,try to break them or pop down to Asda and buy them at £2 per pack instead?
Firstly, if it is sooo easy to go and get another job why are you so worried?

Secondly, the comparison is pathetic and serves no one.

Thirdly, actually all 5 strikebreakers I know personally, do not accept the new terms, not one of them, they just want the money in the short term claiming they need it.

Fourthly, the CEO is putting the company at risk and accepting his terms is only going to help him strip it.

And last but not least, you are a coward. I'd still work with you and treat you perfectly well. But I'd struggle to find an ounce of respect for you. If everyone was like you we'd have no rights at all, we'd still be living in the dark ages. History is made of defining moments when people stood up for their rights; the civil rights movement, ww2, women's rights, and the The General Strike (1842) to name just a few. I suppose you'd prefer these people stayed in their place. You should be ashamed.
Worried. I actually the job and see no harm in the changes going forward, every company has to adapt to survive and we all have to do things wed rather not to keep the money rolling in.

Not sure why you think im a coward, I know my views arent popular with the miliant die hard old school Royal mail staff who havent ever had a job in the real private sector before, yet I still put my view point across and take all the abuse and monitoring of my posts in my stride. Would any of you be brave enough to say you dont agree with the mob?

I don't believe for one minute that people working through the strike are doing so because they are happy to accept the new terms and conditions.
Given how much notice they have had to build up a strike fund, coupled with the ability to work days off etc during the strike, I believe they are just happy for others to do the heavy lifting for them in terms of fighting for their job.

So you welcome the potential loss in sick pay, the potential loss of Ill Health Retirement benefits? You'd welcome Annualised hours? You'd be happy with "Commit to Deliver" where it means you have no finish time, just stay out until you have delivered everything (how is that going to affect our colleagues with child care issues, who took the job on due to finishing in time for the school run)? Loss of supplements (e.g. Delivery Supplement). All this so a CEO can boost his pay packet and give hundreds of millions of pounds to his share holder buddies, while saying "there is no money for you plebs, no new uniform either"?

No other company ive worked at had sick pay ( and seeing how its abused as 'free holiday' I dont blame them) so I wont miss that.
We already do commit to deliver in my office. If someone really needs to be somewhere at finish time then we divide the work between us and get it done, or we are proactive and come in earlier and claim the overtime before we go out not after.
The delivery supp isnt going, its things like the post bus allowance which should go as we dont have them anymore.

If We didn’t have the ability to strike We would have to resort to begging. Stay strong!!!! :thumbup
Good post. I'm currently on holiday in Keswick, I'm ex RM with over 40 years in. I saw one of your colleagues, emptying the main post office in town. When I asked him why he was working on strike day, the response was sickeningly predictable, 'can't afford'.

What a w an k er. :arrrghhh

So because you've never worked in a company which has had sick pay, you'd be happy for Royal Mail to rip it out.

I can only wish that you are never in the unfortunate position to have an unlucky spell of ill health. No matter how healthy you feel now, none of us know what's around the corner. I certainly never expected to have emergency open surgery to fix a twisted bowel back in 2019.... And then a few months off recovering. No doubt you are of the opinion that all posties should be sacked if they are off sick for longer than 12 weeks...

And there would be no overtime going once annualised hours come in...

I know plenty of part timers who are having a really hard time at the moment.
I wouldn't abuse any of them if they chose to cross the picket line.
They have kids to feed and a roof to put over their heads.

As you've previously mentioned Clash your DO doesn't particularly have a lot of extra work going at the moment. My DO is "Lucky" (if you can call it that) that we've got plenty of OT available for those that want it (mainly due to staff shortages & sicknesss). :Boo hoo!

Those that are Genuinely feeling the pinch have been encouraged to work their Rest Days and Claim OT to clear any Failed Walks. Plus once you put those Strike Days in your Diary most will find at least one, or two, fall on Rest Days, or Holidays. :thumbup

We're not talking about those colleagues who are Genuinely struggling, we're talking about "The Usual Suspects" whose motto is "I'm Alright Jack FCUK You". The ones that please themselvess, and work the way they want everyday of the year! :cuppa

While I treat everyone the same when I work with them whether or not they have crossed the picket line, I think it is important that people who do cross the line feel a high level of discomfort. They will earn the benefits should we win and this is their toll, while we pay financially they must equally bear the weight of their decisions. At no point am I suggesting being nasty.

If it is too easy for them I know more that would follow.
I agree with your post Foxel, Well said. :Applause

I find it truly amazing that Streak Breakers come into work and carry on as if nothing's happened, laughing & joking with their colleagues who have been on Strike (and losing money) the previous day to try and improve EVERYONE'S Pay and T&Cs!

What is even more amazing is that their colleagues often join in the banter and have a good laugh with them  I would suggest they simply ask, "Weren't you Strike Breaking yesterday while we were all losing a days pay to try and improve YOUR Pay and protect YOUR T&Cs? Why don't YOU think about that for a while"? :cuppa

Breaking a strike because you are losing money is a definite no no.I need the money just like everyone else but as soon as these strikes were announced its the little things.First thing xbox live cancelled then netflix.startes cycling to work to save fuel. Then on to ebay sold a few things a couple of things each week.more asda savers stuff found its way into my trolley etc etc it's hardly scraping by but these things help. Its amazing what you can flog on ebay it soon mounts up.
Well said Mate! :Applause

Like you say there's a lot of things you can do/get rid of that will help your finacial situation considerably. :thumbup

I think it's very much the case that a lot of Strike Breakers don't "Need" the money ... they just "Want" that extra money! :cuppa

No shareholders, no company, Thats what happened when you lot sold out for 50p when it was privatised. You lost every strike going forward at the point before I even arrived fom a different private company. The share holders will always be paid first in a private company, the workers will always get the advertised amount they signed up for.
It's the workers who bring in the revenue for a company, without them, a company has no revenue

Do none of see that you need both? No shareholders, no one to finance the company through the hard times, no workers no one to earn the money to pay the shareholders back. you need both for a viable company, and the shareholders take a greater financial risk than us as they can loose there entire investment which is why they expect a profit.

The shareholders have already invested. The directors and officers of the company have been appointed to maximise returns on their investment.

The current CEO seems to have been doing some blue sky thinking and imagining, if he was to set up Royal Mail from scratch, how it would look in order to maximise those returns. The only problem is that he is not setting up a brand new business and the skies are not blue. He has an existing large business to run which is subject to a whole host of existing contracts and agreements (not just with employees and the union) that the business is bound by.

If he was to approach RM's energy suppliers saying that he is going to tear up all of his existing contracts with them and expects them to sign new contracts whereby he will pay considerably less, at a time when enrgy prices in general are rising, would you expect them to agree? If not then why would you expect the employees of the business to agree to have their contracts ripped up and new ones introduced with worse terms and pay, at a time when labour costs in general are increasing?

With the energy suppliers he could try to negotiate with other suppliers and then risk being pursued through the courts by the current suppliers for breach of contract. With employees, he could try to recruit 100,000 plus brand new employees on reduced terms and risk being pursued through the courts by the current employees. He has the added problem that, at the moment, jobs are plentiful while cheap labour is scarce.

He really needs to start genuine negotiations with the union or else he is likely to lose all of the shareholders money by driving RM out of business.

I had a big mental health breakdown last year and the biggest reason was the job. I was off work for three months so you are saying I should have been paid for none of them? I seems you have very low standards when it comes to employment don’t expect the rest of us to want those same standards.
