Solid union support

Post by chickenwittle »

I’ve been in the job for 31 years and I’ve never known such solid support for strike action. I also have mates that work in local depots and they are saying the same . Pressure is really on for Simon because we are not budging.

I find it quite unbelievable that a company that is worth billions can have such bad facilities for its workforce. Some DOs have no canteens, toilets that should of been bulldozed years ago, the poor cleaners are trying to maintain the cleanliness of these toilets but you can’t polish a turd. No air con in tin roofed buildings that are like saunas in summer and freezing in winter. When covid struck we was told, well you have bars of soap in the toilets. It took months to get the proper equipment to protect ourselves. When I’ve been to other companies they have lovely up to date toilets and kitchens with tea and coffee making facilities which is all free.

Many companies have health policies for their staff and subsidised gym memberships, not though we would need a gym. We should have access to chiropodist and chiropractors because the amount of back and feet troubles have escalated. Perhaps RM could think about prevention rather than cure. Too late when the post persons back has gone. It might of been prevented. RM should think about looking after the frontline staff and making them feel appreciated. I’m sure it will payoff. You will get results from a happy workforce. Unfortunately RM I think has gone too far this time and have kicked the staff just once too much. The biggest challenge will be years of trying to build the workers morale up as it is now at a all time low. They do not trust you anymore and if trust will ever be restored, I really do not know. I feel that the people I know are broken and do not care anymore. If it goes to the wall, so be it. I use to see hard working people doing more than enough work and bending over backwards for customers to now looking so unhappy and sad and really looking like they haven’t got it in them mentally or physically to complete the day. How things can turn around in just 18 months. Such sad times.

I saw in a Royal Mail ad for a manager's job yesterday that one of the benefits is free gym membership. Typical!

said it before on here our office is a victorian building leased by royal mail.when it rains it rains inside.i could go into detail but id likely give my location away lol.I have came into work many a morning to about an inch deep of standing water on the floor and water running down the light fittings.we have no parking for staff or any vans we leave our vans anywhere we can.sometimes they have tickets on and you have to pay if its your fault.Heating is another issue as its not switched on locally so its usually freezing.

They know their money's safe, can't see them offering free Costa coffee or Gregg's vouchers though that would be a different matter altogether :left:

This is prob why 70% of the new starters dont last a year. Working conditions have fallen well behind the times. Its like were returning to the 1970's

You're quite right Shirtbuttons :Applause

I've been suggesting for years that we should have access to Heatlh Care Specialists, especially with the physicality of the job. It would probably cut the "Genuine" sickness rate considerably.

However I think RM probably take the view that it's cheaper to just let the Old & Knackered fall by the wayside and just recruit, or not, someone to replace them. :no no As for TRUST that went years ago ... Everyone's quietly quitting nowadays ... and who can blame them? :cuppa

Sounds awful. I’m sure I read on here about one office that has so little room they have a marquee setup in the car park outside for sorting. Probably nice in summer, not so much winter....
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
