Just been offered new job

Id probably go for it. Im at a time of life where the mortgage is nearly up and I dont have to kill myself anymore, not that I ever did anyway. If it was me id go for it even if it meant potentially taking a pay drop

I was offered a new job on 7th September. Since then I’ve had an interview, site visit and accepted the position. I start 17th October which is quite scary after 28 years at Royal Mail. It’s 7am-3.30pm and just round the corner from my home. I’ll be starting on more money than I’m on currently then once I’ve completed my training I’ll be on £30,000. Anyone who gets the chance to jump this sinking ship should grab it, get out and don’t look back. Good luck

Do you mind me asking what type of job this is for? I'm looking for other jobs daily but it's quite difficult as being a postman doesn't have many transferrable skills.Thanks

My job is with the MCL which is a department within an abattoir. Sounds gruesome but its not much different from being in the butcher. I will be grading the meat to decide how much the farmers get paid. Total change from delivering mail! In our job at Royal Mail we need to be able to organise our day, making sure the mail is sorted correctly and work under pressure. We need to be able to sort mail at a certain speed. We use PDA’s for proof of delivery and to carry out vehicle checks. There are parts of the job that can be seen to be useful in other jobs. Most of all, we are trusted so keep trying and good luck.

You're right, we heard all the doom merchants in 2013 when we were privatised. It seemed to be just spook stories for a good few years but now the reality is hitting home

do it! I bet you can apply internally for other jobs after a solid few months easily, its a stepping stone into the council, and could see you with a good career / a lot of experience in different rolls, might even offer training/time off to learn etc... do it all.

Same with any job really - how will it impact your health, how will it impact your wealth, and how will it impact your leisure? If the wealth situation will remain about the same, and it will result in improvements to your health (physical or mental) and leisure, then go for it.

Would depend on the job I'd say, two recent ihr's at our place were bad knees and recurring plantar foot problems, both have got new jobs that don't involve walking 12 miles per day.

Even, for example, shelf stacking in tescos (other supermarkets are available). Who are they likely to take on. Someone with no health issues? Or someone who has a long term neurological health condition... Realistically it's going to be the individual with the clean bill of health...

Prospective employers are not allowed to ask questions about your health or any disabilities at an interview.
