So the CWU lobbying the same large shareholders that they are publicly vilifying... Good grief!
They think VESA will help get rid of Simon Thompson but does it mean the largest shareholder will still not want large payouts?
Does the CWU have any ideas of how to increase Royal Mail profitability? (Cutting cost, improving productivity, increasing market share and providing a quality service at a better price than the competition?)
ANNOUNCEMENT : ALL OF ROYAL MAIL'S EMPLOYMENT POLICIES (AGREEMENTS) AT A GLANCE (Updated 2021)... HERE

Apart from the fact that we don't even know whether this meeting took place we certainly don't know if any of the things you have mentioned were even on the agenda, it's actually very unlikely that such an obviously controversial proposal would be made to an organisation who was obviously in close contact with the board.chrisj wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 15:26So the CWU lobbying the same large shareholders that they are publicly vilifying... It is more likely they simply wanted to know if VESA intended to move forward with a full takeover and if so what their ultimate plans were for the business especially with regards to potentially selling off GLS as both these things would have a major impact on CWU members.
Like I said pretty unlikely VESA would be forthcoming but no harm in asking.

But he could have asked him in a letter (like the one he wrote to the Business Secretary, and then the new Business secretary)Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 16:12

There would be no need for secrecy.

Re: Wtf Did the union meet VESA?
This is where the issue is... We don't have competition for what we do; there was a brief window where other companies tried to deliver mail and it all went wrong and we ended up taking on their work. The market cannot provide the service our systems are set up to
On topic, who knows what the CWU or the CEO are truly up to ever? Until about 9 months ago it looked like the Union and the directors were in each others pockets

I think there was the little issue of what Royal Mail did to screw over Whistl and the enormous fine they paid for doing so.Kenfandango wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 16:38there was a brief window where other companies tried to deliver mail and it all went wrong and we ended up taking on their work.
Royal Mail has been fined £50,000,000 by the communications regulator Ofcom for a serious breach of competition law, after the company “abused its dominant position” by discriminating against Whistl- its only major competitor delivering letters and one of Royal Mail’s wholesale customers.

Dave Ward has now accepted Terry met VESA but gave no clues as to what was discussed, it also seems Terry never advised Dave he was meeting VESA and he only found out when Simon told him. You do wonder if the rumour Terry's taken sick leave after falling out with the CWA over the "secret" meeting might not be far from the truth

Yep it’s a bit clandestine. The CWU has to be squeaky clean in all of this.TopperGas wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 20:07Dave Ward has now accepted Terry met VESA but gave no clues as to what was discussed, it also seems Terry never advised Dave he was meeting VESA and he only found out when Simon told him. Re: Wtf Did the union meet VESA?
Dave said that Royal Mail set up the meeting in December so it's very likely everyone knew from the start apart from us.
I think it was a mistake not to make it public right from the start, I don't particularly care whether Terry met VESA as long as he wasn't fishing for a job but I don't like the fact that keeping it quiet has given Simon ammunition.
Sometimes I think those at HQ still don't understand what they're dealing with in Simon Thompson.

Re: Wtf Did the union meet VESA?
If he did find out months ago then it's odd it was all kept quiet until recently, either Dave mislaid us in the past or he only found out recently. Why can't the CWU divulge what was discussed?Acca Dacca wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 20:36Dave said he found out months ago from Keith WilliamsTopperGas wrote: ↑27 Sep 2022, 20:07Dave Ward has now accepted Terry met VESA but gave no clues as to what was discussed, it also seems Terry never advised Dave he was meeting VESA and he only found out when Simon told him.
