Hi, here is the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 21 September... Comments are welcomed, as usual.

JOINT ACTION AT LAST?
OK, so we now have 2 new strike days coming up, on
30 September and 1 October. And on Saturday 1st,
we’ll be striking alongside train drivers and other
railway workers! So that’s good news for once, and
King’s Cross being just down the road, we’ll be able to
visit each others’ picket lines...

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?
It’s a full 22 days since our last strike, and almost a
month since our first! It's like giving CEO Thompson a
punch in the jaw, and then letting him recover before
hitting him again!

RESPECT FOR WHOM?
Many of us were shocked and angered at the calling off
of the strike on the 9th at the very last minute, “out of
respect for [the Queen’s] service to the country!” And
we were told we’d have to go into work that Friday!
Management added that those who didn’t realise, and
didn’t come in, would have to take the day as “unpaid
leave”. Presumably Dave Ward agreed to that?

PAY UP!
It seems that the argument that we should be paid by
the bosses for all the days that we’re on strike, hasn’t
got through to the union officials… We should be
saying that we will not go back to work unless they
undertake to give us this money. And BTW, why
should they gain out of our loss?

WHEN THEY CAN'T DO MUCH...
What about the pettiness displayed by some managers
here, who couldn't stand the sight of the union banner
on the front metal fence and asked the pickets to
remove it. We guess these bosses had nothing better
to do... since there was nobody in the building!

WE KNOW WHAT'S IN OUR INTERESTS
We sent that letter from Simon Thompson (which he
sent to our homes!) right back to him! He dared to tell
us that "strike action is making you worse off, at a time
you need to be better off"!!! Who the hell does he
think he's talking to? As if we aren’t conscious of the
fact that he and his fellow bosses are the cause of our
hardship, and when we fight like this they withdraw
our pay. The point is to make it up, by winning!

ASK THE BIG SHAREHOLDERS
Apparently Thompson threw all his toys out the pram
last week, and said on RMtv (as if we watch it) that we
wouldn’t be getting new uniforms, nor new electric
vans! He says RM's not in the "financial position" to
buy them anymore, so what about this big bonus
(140k) he got this summer? Perhaps he could donate it
to the cause?

THE MORE, THE BETTER
We had a cleaners’ union meeting on Tuesday and yes,
we’re preparing for a strike! There was some
discussion on whether we should strike on our own, or
with our processing/delivery mates. Surely the way to
strengthen our strike is to be out with as many other
workers as possible, and in fact not just postal
workers! The working class’ one weapon is it’s
numerical strength!

OUT OF SIGHT...
What a mess it was on PSA last week, after the semi-botched
strike days and the piling up of workload. The
only good news was that Mr Witless was on holiday
and things went unsurprisingly smoother than usual.
Can management please increase his holiday
allocation? That'd be doing a favour to us all...

OUT OF OUR WAY!
We regularly see managers working on the shop floor,
covering for the lack of hands. Casuals are in every
Saturday and Sunday now, and after long bank
holidays like this week. So it's simple, give them
permanent jobs and managers can then get out of our
way!

DUSTBIN THE D2D
Of course it was hectic after the long weekend this
week... On deliveries we had tons of furniture
catalogues to prep in the morning. Door-2-Dustbin
should be sent to the dustbin before we prep, not after
we deliver them!

BRIGHT SPARKS
Surprise, surprise, most of the last Work Time Sleeping
was spent telling us that the PSM is underperforming…
Really? But hey, keep cutting duties and see if the
machine can run on management's good will.
PS: On Nights they decided to increase our numbers
working on the machine by... one! Good luck with
making the machine "perform" with that!

WE NEED 4x AS MANY WORKERS!
What's for sure is that the duties on the machine are
the most boring jobs possible. For hours, all we see is
packets passing one after the other, and it really gets to
us... Our max shift on the machine should be 2 hours
at most!

EVEN THE PUDDING WAS OFF
So what are they going to do about the canteen?
There’s still only one worker on night duty when we’ve
asked for decent staffing, and the food is terrible: that
bread and butter “pudding” should come with a health
warning! We need the canteen, so revive it!

Is this just an off the cuff newsletter produced as a joke amongst colleagues?

If so fair enough-if it’s produced as some kind of “RM please note” then I’m not sure it can be taken seriously when it talks of being paid when taking industrial action and binning D2Ds.

That’s what I was thinking. I’m sure the union would be happy to pay the thousands of members during strikes, if we up our contribution to £30+ a week.
