Best case scenario, the union send out a direct debit mandate to every member, everyone fills it in and it's no major loss to the union but a loss to the business because the union pays Royal Mail for check off.

I agree ... get those DD mandates out PDQ .... take the wind out of RM's sails. We've got 12 months to get that particular problem solved. I'd be surprised if Simple Simon is still about by then.

This letter certainly lets us know how RM are thinking (as if we didn't already know). I think it should be provided to ALL branches as part of a LTB so that EVERYONE can read it themselves. (While we're at it lets have LTBs on single sided sheets so they're easier to stick on the notice board .. without having to photocopy every other page.

Perhaps this will help to overcome the lack of communication that some posters are reffering to.

Thing is this is big we cannot be told by a person of doubios nature how we are now to be managed out of the business while all along he cannot get on the record and say it himself!

Like many others I'm sure we all know people that really shouldn't be working in this business, and deserve to be sacked. I can understand the frustration of Managers that really don't have any tools to get rid of these people, regardless of how useless they are.

However I have absolutely no TRUST in allowing Managers to have the POWER to arbitrarily sack anyone. Most of them can barely organise a Duty Rota.

I realise I'm leaving myself open to some Flak ... but lets be honest ... Would you, as an Employer, put up with some of the antics of your fellow posties? Unfortunately a lot of us have to put up with their antics ... at our expense!

Perhaps IF RM Management had built up more TRUST over the years their proposals would be greeted with more interest ... as it is I don't believe a word the lying bastards say.

This is change for new contracts with every day is Tuesday pay even Sunday they want rid of us at little cost the attendance procedure would be the first point! Why is our union not focusing on this and communicating with us all sure they don't know are email addresses and our postal addresses to enable the forma!

Everyone can't be brilliant at their jobs. Obviously in an ideal world that's what they want. They don't want fifty or sixtysomethings with a load of ailments. They don't want forgetful and slower workers or pregnant women but that's how it is when you employ over a hundred thousand people at a time. I wouldn't be surprised if that number was half a million who have came and gone in the last 20 years.

The managers do arbitrarily give ridiculous warnings and sack people who become a problem. It takes time but they usually find a way if they want to. It's not even subtle.

They'll be looking for any excuse now. Everyone will be fair game to them currently, they will think that there's no such thing as good workers now, we will all become a liability they want rid of.

Probably to confirm that Royal Mail Group have been in talks with them.
