I think Thompson has pushed the envelope big time today.
It's a statement of intent, a deliberate escalation of the stakes, a threat to everyone. He knows that the Union must react with a strong response, and is prepared to gamble everything on whatever transpires over the next month or two.

If the CWU calls for bulk strike days, can the membership sustain their substantial wage losses for long?
If a significant amount of staff couldn't, and returned to work, that would signal the end for us.

Thompson needs this to come to a head within two months because Christmas is all that he has got.

If we stay strong until Christmas Thompson will be history.

Probably the most asked question of all time over the last 30 years.

Every time someone with seniority leaves and that job becomes vacant, staff are either shi**ing it cos they think their round is in jeopardy, and the other half are hopeful to get bumped up off their bad rounds.

Hardly ever happens, usually a few get unofficially shuffled around and the paranoia dies off for a bit lol

Yes, I was told before I left that "duty holders" will become a thing of the past, it will be a day's work for a day's pay, as RM own ALL the duties and will decide who performs THEIR duties (much like other employers), it will be the best person for the job.
