Re: Update from simon
Today the CWU leadership agreed to meet Royal Mail Group to open discussions on a route to a resolution to the current dispute. Your elected officials are in the room now, as we speak.
Whilst they are in the room, Royal Mail Group have held a conference call with all managers and issued statements in workplaces across the UK.
Amongst the headlines in their comms are:
- notice to be given on a range of national agreements.
- notice to be given on elements of agenda for growth (legal protections)
- notice to be given on IR Framework
- a move from negotiations with your union to ‘consultation’
- a new CWU reps structure
This is:
1. An all out attack on your union.
2. The start of a move to ensure they can attack you at local level without any challenge.
3. The beginning of their plan to make Royal Mail Group a gig economy standard employer.
And all of this has been issued whilst your representatives walked into the room in good faith to open talks.
Sickening.
We will of course get word from our representatives as soon as the ‘talks’ finish and no doubt communicate further today.
For now, the best response everyone can give is to make it crystal clear to management that you will not be bullied and that you will be supporting strike action next week and beyond.

Re: Update from simon
It's the industrial action that has given RM the ability to do this. Within the agreements it states that when no agreement is reached CWU have the right to strike, but also that in the event of industrial action RM can serve notice on the agreements.
Ironically, the IA to try to preserve terms and conditions etc. has actually given RM the right to change them. Self inflicted.

I can't suggest anything now. The horse has bolted... the action has been taken. The strikes will have achieved nothing except what I expect RM wanted them to.

Re: Update from simon
It clearly suggests that when the CWU agreed to this, they clearly believed that it would never come to it!Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑22 Sep 2022, 10:08So what do you suggest?KnowItAll wrote: ↑22 Sep 2022, 10:04It's the industrial action that has given RM the ability to do this. Re: Update from simon
We've been played. Again.
The IR framework clearly has holes which the union has left wide open for RM to exploit.
What does striking gain us now, other than a bit of self respect?
Hate to sound defeatist, but this was all obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense.
Begs the question, does the union have any common sense- if they do, they've led their members into this.

Re: Update from simon
Any suggestions for what has already passed would be pointless. There was no way either side was going to be happy with any agreement, so it seems the CWU got played, thus giving RM the green light to move on. I genuinely think that there was no way CWU could have won this. They would have had to try to get the membership to accept proposals that were very unpopular because RM were never going to move.

Re: Update from simon
Reading through this thread and watching the vid, my gut feeling is that the later starts will get brought in within the next month, within the next two, tops. I can't see how the CWU can stop it from happening anymore
