Its Royal Mail that is refusing to talk not the Union, the Union have stated that they are ready to talk at any time, but Royal Mail is putting preconditions on any talks.
I thought the union were insisting the chairman be present at the talks?
They were at one bit but that’s not been mentioned in last week and half since the aborted strike. I heard they actually saw the books too which was another precondition, but they are claiming “creative accounting” so who knows what’s going on.

The no strings pay rise has not been mentioned either.

Thats the main problem, we all know changes of some kind will happen and a payrise of some kind will happen, so why are the union insisting on seperate talks?

In a way part timers are the cause of themselves not being made up to full time. Why would RM bother to make PT up to FT when they can get the work covered on OT?

A part-timer on 24 hours a week, 4h 48m a day, can't be put on a 7 hour shift and leave after 4h 48m. They'd never make it past probation.

Absolute bollocks to blame part-time staff for a business and union failure.
That's low and sneaky and beneath contempt.
And in case you hadn't noticed it isn't just part-time staff who work overtime.

If you'd bothered to read properly what I wrote, I didn't say it was just PT doing OT :cuppa

Bigger problem is ALL the people who come in early and work through breaks and run around with a bag on their back IMHO.

No, but that's not the relevant part of your post - you said 'In a way part timers are the cause.......' note - 'the cause', not 'a cause',
so stop trying to make excuses for what is a silly, ill thought out and offensive comment, especially in the situation
where we're all supposed to be united in a common cause. This one sounds like you've quoted it out of Thompson's
little black book of management b******t.

You'd have got credit by highlighting management failings that enable the situation rather than blaming the P/T postie.

Do you blame all posties not being paid an adequate wage because they took up the job in the first place?

If no one ever done OT then RM wouldn't have no choice but to have more FT. Eventually RM will get a lot of the prep work automated, there are techs available that can sequence flats and letters together and there are even techs that can sequence packets. RM is bound to invest in them eventually, will FT even exist in DOs when that eventually happens.

The difference between PT and FT is supposed to be that FT does the IPS and a good chunk of the prep, the more people they have in to do the IPS and prep work, the earlier that everyone gets out and the longer they can make the walks.

No one has an automatic right to OT in any industry. RM just find it cheaper to get stuff covered on OT rather then making up PT to FT

Wouldn't they just use casuals?
After all that's what you've been saying for years was going to happen in delivery.
the more people they have in to do the IPS and prep work, the earlier that everyone gets out and the longer they can make the walks.
The longer they make the walks the less people they need in to do the deliveries so your equation doesn't really stack up.

The real reason Royal Mail relies so much on overtime is not because it's particularly cheaper but because it's a variable workload and despite spaffing millions on various computer programs to predict traffic they would be as well looking in the bottom of a teacup because their managers couldn't resource a one man band.

If 10 years ago all the part-time members had stopped working overtime we wouldn't have one extra full-time job.

We would have had flexi-hours, commit to deliver and annualised hours for the last 10 years because that's exactly how they intend to remove the reliance on overtime in delivery, we actually should be thanking the part-time members for helping to keep that at bay for all this time.

We have several 30hr contract posties signed into walks, doing FT hours because they were told many moons ago that they'd get a full time contract "in the end." The obvious reason is that RM have for many years planned on mechanised sorting taking over and then just letting the PTers work their hours, but seemingly they're more interested in shareholder bonuses and silly gimmicks to actually invest in the structure required. Ever done a Sunday? The amount of manual sorting required before you even get out of the door takes a good 90 minutes before you even load up (scan into depot, sort into areas, sort into order.)
This FT vs PT debate is somewhat redundant when the company rarely offer the carrot of a FT contract to people who do FT hours and have for half a decade or more

who would give up there regular overtime but maintain their basic contracted income when employed by RM to try maintain a service by doing not overtime to clear what ever disruption could be caused, our own union the cwu could make this legal by october to be used in december but they refuse this option, causing less disruption, this is not a ft/pt battle it's a cwu/rm battle
we need the cwu to listen to us more than rm ignore us right now
We have already got people asking if they can come in on the Sunday after next week's 2 strike days to clear their walk.
They have been told by the Branch that the union doesn't have a problem with that.

FedEx gave a profit warning - Royal Mail was immediately affected, yet the Union thinks it is creative accounting! Did they take an expert with them or everything will now be conspiracy theories until those prophesies actual come through - such as a takeover.

A takeover is unlikely with the USO still hanging around Royal Mail's neck. A break up might be more likely if we keep losing business and share price of the whole group keep tanking.

It might not have been wise in hindsight to dish out loads of money to shareholders and bonuses but anyone with common sense can tell that the business will not do well this year. Pandemic boom over and the cost of energy and fuel is enough to cancel out the increases in stamps (real mail is down - for sure) or small increases in parcel costs.

The Union has to get on with talks or call off the strikes: what good will the strikes do if it drags on towards Christmas... We will be so down and the executive will be so entrenched that the 5.5% might even be taken off the table. Most of the changes will end up being imposed but this is the time for CWU to mitigate and cone to some useful and helpful compromises.

this is simply why a lot at ours are getting disgruntled with the heads at cwu,
but it's disheartening to see any disruption not completely undone but i know ours will be just about clear by tues, if not mon, and those doing sundays won't lose much money, think only 1 ft does them quite regular, rm aren't fussed if mail gets left for a few days, just wanting tracked and specials gone, which will be if sunday working,
if strikes are the only action our union will consider then a fri-tue inc the sunday should be called (if we can strike on sun that is?)
2 days lost in the pay twice, those contracted to work sundays here very seldom do as needed for regular delivery and already done their hours
we've put all our eggs in 1 basket and can't get the tactics right on that
