"CEO of Royal Mail Group (one of them), Simon Thompson has written to all non-operational managers today offering them a free days leave and £150 in shopping vouchers to break our members picket lines next Friday and Saturday. "
Apparently, this is what Simon Thompson has offered non operational managers to cross the picket lines. This is what the CWU put out this afternoon, saying its embarrassing, shameful and desperate! The point is this CEO is not interested in an agreement
But surely managers have always crossed CWU picket lines, why wouldn't they?
Looks like a union baiting statement from Simon, he'll know the managers are like sheep and would all be working those days anyway.
Just as any decent employer wouldn't brazenly dish out shares to execs during strikes, any decent employer wouldn't have the gall to lavish incentive freebies to it's managers during strikes especially after declaring that it was too broke to provide new uniforms.
Simon is a total bottom feeder, the likes of which we've never seen before
Don’t expect any news or move towards and sort of agreement prior to the 1st October - that’s the unions flagship “enough is enough” combined industry walkout.
Totally agree with this. Instead of trying to sort out our dispute I’m of the opinion we are being used as political pawns for this new campaign. Promoted by our union incidentally and our media man.
The payment to managers to "cross the picket line" is not about getting managers to go in, which (as has been pointed out) they sort of have to do as it's not them striking.
The point of the bribe, the agency, the vans, is to show the workers that he would rather throw money on a fire than give any to us. It's a display of spite, to show us that he won't capitulate.
Excellent post, well put, I feel it's actually quite disheartening, there's a massive amount of us that like this job, such a shame.
I feel sorry for his parents and his old grandad who he spoke of with such fondness and his love of the union. The guys a disgrace and has brought complete and utter shame on his entire family. Revolting individual.

For me, you have to be a special kind of individual to want to be a Royal Mail manager over the last 30 years. Very few reasonable ones with their own decent values last very long in that game.
They are a shameless bunch in general, and probably think Simon is a messiah.
Crossing everybody's picket lines, stitching up and spying on staff, bullying the weak, covering each others fk ups, just a soulless existence.
It was once a job to be proud of and to want and do the job to the best of your ability was paramount. That mentality carried forward to fill already wealthy individuals pockets is quite simply demoralising and I for one can no longer do this job with pride or enthusiasm. That is in no way a disrespect to my customers, who I've grown to know very well, but a coping mechanism to the onslaught of utter bull we are faced with everyday going forward. I've never failed so much mail in my royal mail employment. It still nags but I'm no longer prepared to work like a nob to reward the higher echelons of society.
"Many UK firms taking part in a four-day working week trial have said they will keep it in place after the pilot ends.
More than 70 firms are taking part in the scheme where employees get 100% pay for 80% of their normal hours worked.....The majority of firms said it is working well for their business".
Meanwhile at Royal Mail they are going in another direction and wanting us to work more for less.
If there are going to be a lot more 4-day-week jobs coming about over the next years - who would want to work 5 days a week including Saturdays and Sundays for Royal Mail.

I agree entirely. it's hard to see how this will all end.

Remember that YOU havent failed any mail. They have failed the mail.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

True and deliberately. It's so annoying. We have a long term sustainable business supporting thousands of families and we are all being thrown under a bus so a few very rich people can make a few quid and take off leaving us with sweet fa. It's so enfuriating and there is literally nothing we can do about. Our last resort of striking is empowering their position even more but I'd rather go bust than lay down but the end is close and it'll be swift. At least then we can all move on and get an equally s**t job else where safe in the knowledge we at least tried and didn't just roll over.

I think a lot of Posties share your dilema mate. RM is a BIG company and many families rely on it. It's a shame when it gets run into the ground by a few carpet baggers, just wanting to squeeze some extra cash out for themselves.
You'd think a decent board would be looking "LONG TERM" and try to grow the business. Unlike these low lifes who just want to take their money and bug out!
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

Totally and with truss and rees-mogg in charge they'll be allowed to reduce uso obligation and flog gls under the banner of protecting the finances of royal mail. Mogg is anti every term and condition we have. Paid holiday he detests not to mention sick pay and the biggest disgust he shares with truss of trade unions.
