overtime ban

Post by world class male »

who would give up there regular overtime but maintain their basic contracted income when employed by RM to try maintain a service by doing not overtime to clear what ever disruption could be caused, our own union the cwu could make this legal by october to be used in december but they refuse this option, causing less disruption, this is not a ft/pt battle it's a cwu/rm battle
we need the cwu to listen to us more than rm ignore us right now

As a PT on 24 hours, it would hardly be worth turning up if the ban included ATD.

How will that idea stand up to being repeatedly put on routes that take you 15-30 minutes longer than your time even in summer? Will you be able to ask for all that back come December or will they suddenly decide it's a bad choice?

(Also, I'm a 30hr and though the ad mentioned no overtime the interview and induction repeatedly DID say OT was guaranteed)

It's a terrible idea that would just further split the workforce. Many part timers already suspect the union are only interested in looking after the old school full timers, such a bad would just confirm that in their minds. And on a practical level, how do you do it? Does it include all overtime? So collections, early starts, lats, merges, pressure overtime and rest day working? Or just pressure after a strike?

I'm not thinking about me and pay. And I thought I took a 24 hour job but turns out it's not been close once yet :Very Happy

If working this suggestion and they sent me out with a full-time member of staff I'd finish before them and have to be brought back (assuming the FT can drive). The FTer would then need to finish up to their time by themselves. Every day would be a s**t show for them. And it's not like I ever go in and my round is ready I frame everyday.

ATD would need to be paid, else it'd quickly lose support.

You should have the same finish time just a different start time.or is this another office that's different,300 different ways to do the same job  what a company.

I totally support an overtime ban & obviously includes all overtime. RM cannot function without overtime. They would cave in within a week & if you carry on working your hours you don't have double to go to next day unlike now. You lose a few hours a day but you still get your weekly wage. If you can't manage now without overtime how are you going to manage when they bring in changes & you don't get paid for it but you still have to do it. Think about how much you are going to lose next year. Put pressure on cwu to bring this in now.

There will be NO OVERTIME if annualised hours is brought in,the whole point of bringing it in isn't to penalise p/t colleagues but to save RM stack of money.

Incorrect, only the first 10 hours of extended delivery will be banked,Anything over 10 hours will be paid as will day off/sick cover will be paid as ot, as will things such as lats, early ip or things deemed of importance to the company.

If p/timers are depending on o/t in this job then they would probably be better start looking for something else if this annualised hours comes in. Royal Mail are only interested in how they can save money and if this works then they know they will save a fortune.

Our union representative told us there is no plans for part timers to work annualised hours & it would only be full timers, leaving the part timers to mop up, makes sense really 🤔

You can’t have full timers annualised and part timers not perhaps once u get to the full time threshold then part timers will be annualised I do regular ot but would be prepared to do a ban if it helps us win our battle already lost £400 so I’m in now whatever way it goes and for the record voted no to pay rise strike as don’t believe that you can ever win by losing money never vote yes for the pay deal the union say is acceptable and voted no to the terms and conditions as that’s the real danger in this dispute

Not sure if this would damage RM as much as we would hope for. They could still guarantee the specials and tracked and would just hire agency to clear LATs etc whilst paying them a pretty penny. 4 days or so of strikes coming into Christmas would certainly put businesses off using RM as they won't be able to guarantee even priority items.
