Re: Fresh talks
This situation isn't like the strikes from the past.
Both sides are very unlikely to budge or compromise that is pretty clear.
The business wants to change everything. The union will not accept that. Any compromise is going to be very unsuitable for both parties.
Thompson isn't going to buckle, he's in for the long haul. (Then he'll be gone).
The Union will be broken forever if they just accept any significant change in the terms and conditions.
We've got to strap ourselves in for a long ride.

Re: Fresh talks
So really it’s who blinks first.Either Royal Mail will lose too many customers they’ll have to back down on their plans completely and give us a decent pay rise, or the workforce breaks the strike itself and drifts back due to financial reasons.

Re: Fresh talks
The decent pay rise is a secondary issue. Quite a lot of posties are saying "oh I'll settle for 8%", and the public are all thinking 'yeah give them a pay rise what they deserve' but pay is the smokescreen.
If pay was the issue this battle wouldn't have got to this stage. The issue is that Royal Mail want to change your job completely. And the current hierarchy won't give up until they get that.
We need to force the muppets out of their jobs before we lose ours.

Re: Fresh talks
If we lose this strike, Simon won’t stop at the initial changes his proposed, he’ll take ball and run all the way for to minimum wage and zero hours contracts. You can call it scare mongering, but his already shown what he thinks of the union with his executive actions and ignoring past agreements.
I can take the financial hit month on month, if someone genuinely financially can’t do the same, I won’t begrudge them if they have to work to survive. Hopefully there is enough of us to hold the line through the festive period.

Re: Fresh talks
Strikes are not having a huge impact to be honest but strikes Black Friday onwards would be an absolute nightmare
