Royal Mail managers and 'figures,' are a match made in Hell.daveyeff wrote: ↑10 Sep 2022, 05:12Simons offer to look at the books was a load of f***ing garbage anyways. Figures are easily manipulated and "cooking the books" has been done for years,....the union would've had to take in top notch auditors/accountant wizards to uncover the shite they would've produced to go over....f***ing laughable that....probs why the union ignored the gesture.

I don't disagree but that is what the statement was.Schiff wrote: ↑09 Sep 2022, 19:45On its own that statement by RM is completely meaningless.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑09 Sep 2022, 18:47
No. That is wrong.
What they said is the UK part of the business had lost £1 million pounds a day for the first 3 months of the financial year.
It wasn't "we are making £1 million/day less" which is what I responded to.
I understand when we make our money.
I understand they could have loaded substantial costs into that period to make the figures look bad.
But you can't have a reasoned debate if you think that when they went to the markets they said something other than this part of the business has lost £90 million in the first three months.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: million a day nonsense
Pretty sure a company can borrow to pay dividends. Shell and BP made a loss in 2020 but although cutting their dividends they paid around 50% of the previous year divi.

if they can borrow to pay dividends surely it would be on the strength of what they KNOW profits are going to be. they wouldn't be able to borrow if someone though it was all going to go tits up.

They've always been pretty good at fudging figures haven't they. I read one of the measures for director share awards was shareholders returns, maybe that's why they didn't cut the divi.

It's probably fair to point out theyve always said the million a day figure is based on what we're doing currently as it's quiet, and they expect to break even by the end of the year. Strike action would push us into losses though, so they claim.
