WILL CANCELLING THE STRIKE TODAY WEAKEN OR STRENGTHEN OUR POSITION?

Post by POSTPERSON50 »

I think that time dilutes the potency of strike action.
The longer it goes on, the weaker we become.
For me striking on the odd day here and there has minimal impact. The public get used to it and the staff become more poor.

Are we doing enough?

This is good.

The union can now say, look how quick we can get everyone back to work if you talk to us and outline a deal.

There were only 15% of posties in work at our depot today so we did 'strike' for the most part.

I think a lot of us on here last night didn't cotton on to the fact that this could still have been an unofficial strike. Posties didn't have to go in.

Weaken. We’ve blown it. Two days together would have done the trick. Appalling decision.

Half my office didn't turn up. By the time we catch up and clear the backlog it'll be time for the next strike.

It’s about the bigger picture, Black Friday , cyber Monday , Xmas are quickly approaching , Royal Mail need this resolved sooner rather than later .They’ve already said more money is available so that’s a positive move already.

Hopefully we can reschedule the day for one in the week following the coming strike dates. One day at a time won't do. The managers at our place gave half the reserves today off and half yesterday to keep the lapsing dream alive but that worked against them today and the place was a mess.

I voted to strike and I will go out as and when the union call the shots. My personal view, all the time Simon Thomson is in charge we have zero chance. I honestly believe he won't budge. If the takeover rumours are true then he definitely won't budge as the guy eyeing us up won't be too happy if he does. Even though I think we are going to get smashed, you have to fight, can't give in to bullies.

Same here, reserves here only ever get Tuesday off unless it’s good Friday, Easter Monday, or yesterday and today’s strike. It was quite amusing watching management ringing reserves pleading with them to come in, I don’t think a single one did.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

That would mean announcing strike dates in a period of national mourning, the union obviously won't go there.

Realistically we've got 10 days of national mourning, the state funeral (likely Monday 19th) then another 7 days of Royal mourning which will take us to the 26th September, the week of our next planned action (September 30th October 1st), whether they go ahead is another question.

Nothing will be announced until after that so the earliest potential new strike dates would be the middle of October.

Something very wrong with the reserve situation during strike times. Giving them the strike days off so they receive full pay allows the managers to say that 20 or 30 reserve staff didn't strike that day

A few days after the queen is laid to rest the country will move on with the new King and new government to get through the energy crisis during the colder months.

30th and 1st strike dates should remain. Can always say we are striking, but not picketing if the queen's passing is still heavily in the news.

#abolishthemonarchy now trending on twitter. Maybe people have moved on already.

Weaken.

Thompson's laughing at us, as he lights another cigar with a 50 note.
