Why the Royal Mail didn't close the business for the day anyway shows their true colours doesn't it? Profit over everything else is all that matters, even over the death of the Queen!

This is why we now have the moral upper hand, we can always throw that back at Royal Mail. You carry the crown, but you have no respect.

I think this is where a lot of people fall down because they think that morality eventually prevails. Governments and businesses always win out over the worker because they promote the moral high ground, while pursuing victory at all costs. Conceding to ideas of morality and decency may make you feel better about your cause, but the world is run by the rich and the ruthless, and beneath their feet is the churn of the working classes.

I think what we’ve seen from the CWU in the last few years has been weakness; both intellectual and moral. They’re consistently outmanoeuvred by the ruthless capitalist machine, and I think they’ll lose again. Their problem is that they don’t even fully understand the terms of victory that RM is seeking. They (the employer) ask for a lot, and always get a little, but their incremental gains over time have steered the ship in exactly the direction they want it to go.

My instant reaction yesterday was 'keep the strike, cancel the picket'.

Now I've slept on it, I thought cancelling the strike was the correct decision. I can't see these strikes stopping any time soon and it's probably best to look good in the public eye (as the media are already after all the unions). The only downside is the boardroom will be laughing their heads off at this.

Further down the road, this might hopefully come back to bite RM, 'the workers cancelled a strike out of respect, and for you it's business as usual', I can't see them keeping the Royal in Royal Mail much longer.

Have they even made a statement about our nations loss? All I've seen is 'your stamps are valid'.

Agree with the above, also Thomson can't say the union was heartless for not calling off the strike the day after the Queens passing. Alas for Royal Mail, they couldn't respect The Soveriegns passing treating today as just another day.

In hindsight I think it was potentially the right decision, for one reason.....

I wasn't going to go in, but I was expecting the vast majority of posties would be in, so felt obliged to work.... they weren't. Maybe 15% of staff were in.

So our depot did strike for the most part without officially striking.

If this was the same throughout the country, with around 15% of workers going in - then you could say it was the right decision in hindsight. Maybe it wasn't as I am sure in other depots it was probably the opposite and 80-90% were in.

I agree 3 strike days totally wasted with little or no impact & RM 3 days pay in their pocket from each employee, need to be out for a week minimum to cause a slight dent.

You must be joking, our frames are overflowing. Didn’t even try to put todays in, just took abit that was in the frame and the tracked. Non tracked pilled up at side of frame as no takers for the overtime they keep offering.

Calling todays action was the right move by the way.

I worked today and several members of the public that asked me about not being on strike were totally in agreement it was the right thing to do out of respect and supported that decision and the reasons we are striking in the first place

I think that has happened nationwide to a large degree. But the lack of leadership from the CWU has caused a divide between the ones who had to make that decision to reluctantly go in and the ones who took a stance and stayed off

We’ve had people in our office saying they can’t really afford to strike and some of the same people angry that yesterday’s strike was called off.

The strikes being called off are really frustrating when you know that RM are going ahead with their changes over the next few months through EA. I'm not happy about it, but other events have also been called off this week too as the ' Country is in Mourning ' I don't think any of the unions had much choice. On the plus side half of my office didn't make it in today. By the time we sorted mail and packets up there wasn't much time left to do a full delivery. Most of the work is still sitting there for tomorrow, I imagine most offices across the country are the same. There will still be a massive disruption to services.

I disagree with the unions decision to cancel and at such short notice. But I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm going to be working strikes from now on and cancelling my sub. I mean seriously, are some of you actually just going to give up now and give into what the board wants? This was always going to be a long fight. Christmas still coming so whats the issue? One strike gets called off and its, I give up. Wheres the fight? Seems a lot are fine all of a sudden with the changes the company wants to bring in.

As for the previous strike days being wasted, they certainly haven't in my office frames are rammed, IPS is days behind, yorks everywhere and walks failing those of us that worked today haven't dented it at all.
