This decision is getting torn to shreds on social media

Thats a good reminder why I'm not on Social Media, plenty more opportunities to go on strike on other days. I'm not a Royalist but this is the right thing to do

The CWU have no choice. RMT and Tessa both have call strike action off for next week.

The support we have from the public would be lost if we continue to strike tomorrow.

Those who were not In Royal Mail when Diana died will not understand how the uk will change over the next few days in terms of mourning and how the media and public will view people striking and cheering on picket lines.

Remember this has not happened in 70 years and it is unprecedented and we represent members who work for the Royal Mail.

Our dispute still is on but if we decided to push ahead with the strike tomorrow we would lose all the public support which we have and we need if we are gong to win.

The danger a lot of us fear though is that Royal Mail are still going to come at us in the coming days with Executive Action, I would be amazed if they had the heart to pause whilst we and the country are in mourning. If this happens u guys at the top need to call out that behaviour big time and then hit them hard with strike dates. We did the right thing at the beginning of Covid, we have done the right thing now, it’s time for RM to do the right thing for once.

Right decision, plenty more opportunities to strike

I've been talking calls and messages all night from members and none of them agree it's the right decision.

Of course they're the guys that have to walk the streets tomorrow showing complete disrespect by stuffing pizza leaflets through people's doors.

Just the ordinary members who I'll have to convince to go back out at the end of the month.

Woody standing down picket lines would just allow for Royal Mail and the media to attack us when we have the next strike.

They would attack us to the media and public that at a time when the uk is in mourning we work for the Royal Mail and Queens head is on all the stamps that we still went out on strike the very next day of her death.

Even the RMT cancelled their strike for next week before the announcement.

It is down to opinions but if you really think Royal Mail and the media would not exploit a decision to not stand down strike action at a time when the UK is in national mourning than I think you are underestimating what we are going to witness over the next two weeks.

All sports fixtures etc will be cancelled , the TUC will be stood down next week , this is an unprecedented times and you are deluded if you think we simply could of got away with no picket lines.

If any managers took the piss and decided to get ahead of themselves, assuming that because you weren't in today that you wouldn't be in tomorrow then you should submit a formal grievance against them. We all know that taking shortcuts and ignoring procedures is what RM managers are all about. Now is the time to hold them to account.

This strike isn't being cancelled as some sort of concession to Royal Mail. It is being cancelled as a simple mark of human decency. To be honest, cancelling the strike at this short notice will be almost as disruptive to RM as us being out for the day.

I’m no royalist, However we’d have been ripped to shreds by the media if we’d have stayed out tomorrow. Simon Thompson would’ve had plenty to say too. We have the moral upper hand here.

Also a strike can be called off at any time, you should always be prepared to be able to go back into work, it’s not a day off. You should be on the picket lines anyway.

Can’t believe how many people don’t understand that we’re not paid a week in arrears. Only OT is a week in arrears
