Strike Cancelled 9/9

This strike isn't being cancelled as some sort of concession to Royal Mail. It is being cancelled as a simple mark of human decency. To be honest, cancelling the strike at this short notice will be almost as disruptive to RM as us being out for the day.

That's what I thought plus it's going to cost them dearly in wages

I’m no royalist, However we’d have been ripped to shreds by the media if we’d have stayed out tomorrow. Simon Thompson would’ve had plenty to say too. We have the moral upper hand here.

Also a strike can be called off at any time, you should always be prepared to be able to go back into work, it’s not a day off. You should be on the picket lines anyway.

We won't even be in the news tomorrow, so if we strike, but cancel picket lines and simply say we aren't picketing as a mark of respect, we will be mourning at home with our families instead..... then that works.


Why do I have to go to work when I am supposed to be mourning the queen. Working isn't a sign of respect - being at home watching the news coverage with a cup of tea and crumpets whilst remembering the life of the queen would be respectful.

CWU call off planned industrial action on Friday 9 September 2022

We have received and welcome the notification from CWU that they will be calling off planned strike action tomorrow, Friday 9 September following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

In light of this, tomorrow will be a normal working day at Royal Mail, and so staff should return to work as usual. Any strike-related pay deductions already made will be rectified. We understand that some people may be unable to attend work tomorrow at short notice so we would like to clarify that no disciplinary action will be taken, but it will be treated as unpaid leave.

We recognise that this is an emotional time, and we ask that managers and colleagues are mindful of this and support one another.
This is a momentous occasion in UK history, and over the coming days and weeks Royal Mail will be relied upon to deliver important messages of condolence from all around the world to the Royal family.

Ahead of this, we need to focus on recovering services tomorrow and over the coming days. We would therefore very much welcome it if non-operational managers who were due to support the operation tomorrow can continue to as planned.

Tomorrow will be a s**t show with two days mail because mailcentres network and distribution will now be working tonight.

Members won't forget, the PEC has just undermined the entire dispute.
All you had to do was stand down the picket lines, the public would not have even given a thought to whether they got their mail tomorrow.

There probably won't be any more strike action in the UK until 2 weeks after the State Funeral, as we enter a new era perhaps it's a time for heads to be knocked together and time for a new deal between the business world and their employees.

Exactly, the Royal Mail aren't offering us a day off as a mark of respect and a time of mourning.

This company treats us like dirt. Our queen of 70 years has just passed and the country is grieving, yet they want us to drive and walk when we are all emotional about what has happened.

And because of this RM are going to be on the wrong side of the optics in the eyes of the public.

Dave Ward will be able to make huge mileage from the total lack of respect shown on the death of our monarch by ROYAL Mail. They showed Her Majesty as little respect as they are showing to their workers. Every day is only about making money.

IMO this is as poor a union decision as the mistakes made during the ballot the other year.
