I think the reason Saturday has been chosen is because thats when the unions involved in the enough is enough campaign are collectively taking action - 1st October
It's this.

On Saturday 1st October the Enough is Enough campaign which Dave Ward is part of, is having nationwide protests about the cost of living crisis, the greed of these big corporations, the treatment of workers etc.....

I am expecting massive turnouts to these protests by the public.

I think the unions approach to this has been misguided. A long protracted strike was not the way.

We should have gone out the first week for a whole week, that would have garnered a lot more attention, and what would it have cost an extra day in pay compared to what we are doing now.

A week without the national postal carrier would have made better headlines, and the fallout from it would have been big. This sporadic days here and there striking doesn't have the same clout.
The Union have overeached because of the support they got and the poor PR from Royal Mail but folks are misguided if they think the people that really matters care about our plight. We shall soon be forgotten just like the binmen in Scotland or Railway people. There is always going to be something else in the news - just pick your choice: the Queen is about to pass, War, energy crisis, cost of living, new PM, opposition shouting about elections (Kier does not support us).

We have bitten more than we can chew - RM will not budge on the changes - maybe a few token wins to allow the CWU to save face and be truly cucked forever.

On average, a 1% pay rise on an average £24,000 (median or mean?) Is about £240 per annum. Most of us will have lost 1% by tomorrow. A lot on higher wages or overtime will have lost more. Royal is paying strike breakers in terms of agency, bonuses for managers and van hires etc but they are saving on lots of salary and pension contributions...

RM will not budge because the businesses will not all leave them because most will sympathise with them in terms of ever increasing costs and less on the profit margins... The competition is also more expensive and not always the same quality...

We are going be to lose a lot of money and not change the corporate greed culture - sad, because that will take the country voting for a more socialist government and a lot of people rising up in a revolution. It will not happen because this is the UK and most people tend to vote against their own interests...

What is the end game for us and the CWU? What will a victory be and can that victory be sustained in coming years.

Simon and his top team needs to go because of their hubris, greed, arrogance and insensitivity but this is a PLC - who removes them?

We are in a bind!

Do you think 6 days of striking will not go some way to us getting an acceptable pay rise?

Business customers using royal mail are paying more and more to deliver their parcels whilst they have to fork out more money for the privilege and the quality of service is in decline. It is down to the threat of strike, and treatment of workers who simply don't care anymore about the quality. Yet higher prices don't translate into more money for us.

You are right though about the royal mail saving enough by not paying us to be able to afford extra vans and agency staff as well as manager's bonuses. We are approaching our busier periods and I believe it will become more of a problem for royal mail in the coming weeks. Also their lies about the takeover were exposed on the media. So far it isn't looking great for them. They will soon be on borrowed time.

We have to stand up for ourselves whatever the result is.

People have different financial situations. Yeah you might be losing money by striking, but you can always get that back in the future by doing overtime.

I am not concerned about losing pay whilst striking. I get a nice couple of days off to relax. We all deserve some rest and time with family. Life isn't all about working to make Simon Thompson richer.

Do you want us to bend over and accept 1.5% for all those changes? forget about the 2% bonus - it doesn't exist.

I bet you that as soon as we accepted the above, Royal Mail would put up prices by 10% for every service we offer and then we'd be 'making £1million a day'.

None of us will accept 1.5% for that list of changes. How have they offered 2% for no changes and 1.5% for a list of changes. It doesn't make any sense. I don't think they want those changes. I think they want a takeover then a gig economy where you'd be earning minimum wage whilst being whipped by the worst line managers you've ever seen.

I’ve been genuinely shocked by how poor a leader Mr Thompson is. For someone with as much experience as he has on his cv it’s like he has never managed a company before. He’s a poor communicator and seems to have no concept of how to make a deal.

The first rule of any business is that you don’t listen to every Tom Dick and Harry’s idea of how you run one. He must have at 5/6 layers of underlings before you get to the shop floor.

The binmen in Scotland haven't been forgotten, their dispute has been settled, they received about £2000 a year pay rise approx 10% for the lowest paid staff

The shareholders do or the government as it is an essential service if someone does underhand things it gets investigated some of these clowns think every action is ok by their standpoint. But let's get them on the record and see what a legal stand or porrisicution can be made!

Let's be serious and mature about things - my views and attitudes counts for very little... Reality is reality! Unless you get a revolution, then corporate attitudes will not change.

In some many ways, we benefit from the greed - yes, there is trickle down economics even if the rich are getting richer... We are still a lot better off than most countries in the EU for starters; before we think of the rest of the world.

Our unity in this case will not make RM change their minds on the changes they want to take place. What we should have been doing right from the off is to accept most of the changes proposed because the industry and current economic situations are not favourable. It is hard to predict future profitability - even more so now with the strikes.

Even if they us handsomely for now, it will not bode well for the future or for jobs. New contracts will have to be markedly different - will not be fair! Pensions might even be affected!

How much can RM pays us more - the CWU need to set figures otherwise, they can claim victory despite our huge losses. How far will RM budge from the entrenched position - how can we know when the two sides are sulking?

I am not happy with the Greed at the top but we cannot all just keep banging on about that because the money they are getting is not so different from others in their position. Paying 120,000 X amount is not close to just a handful at the top or even managers.

I will continue to stay away from work but not happy about it at all!

*Why will the CWU not go and look at the books? That is such a privilege thing to be offered!

How many of the others are pleading poverty and saying their business is losing £1M a day whilst taking it though?

Do you think 6 days of striking will not go some way to us getting an acceptable pay rise?
What is an acceptable Pay Offer? If you give me a figure, I can hazzard a guess whether Royal Mail might pay. But this is not about pay only!

A 6-day strike will break the company and many Posties! Not feasible and it will not happen!

I doubt we will even go for a 3-day consecutive strike - and we are talking that upon the possible 4+2days.

The CWU said we are in it for the long haul - has w much are they losing and how much do they realistic think we shall get?

We are no bin men - good for them! They have no competition and pile of rubbish speaks for itself...

Now Royal Mail will say they have to change the stamps to Charles' face, and that it's going to cost a fortune to do it, so they can't give us any increase on the offer.
