Re: Proposed sick policy
If people can't afford to take a day off sick when they've got a cold/flu (or worse COVID) then they're putting everyone else in the office at risk of infection all so RM can save a few quid.

Re: Proposed sick policy
Please can someone outline the proposed sick leave details to me? I’m waiting for an operation and I’m worried. As I understood it it’s the first 2 weeks as statutory pay and then what?
Thanks
Thanks

1. Sick pay:
For colleagues with more than 12 months service, we
propose a change to our sick pay arrangements. This change
would not affect the first absence in a 12-month period but
for every subsequent absence, you would receive Statutory
Sick Pay (SSP) for the first week of absence.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Proposed sick policy
For those saying, how does Simon or the manager knows about fake sick... Come on! These managers have daily phone conferences and those office with large number of sickies are discussed and the managers are challenged and often ridiculed...
Some Postie's talk too much and to be honest, it will s very obvious when you look at it. The stats on new starters is another indication - no generous sick pay in the first years equates to less sick days off.
Overtime kings too rarely go off sick.
Royal mail sick policy is generous - one of the best; folks can say what they like but go and work for other large companies and see.
The changes proposed are not even going to stop the piss takers overall. They can just forgo some days pay and take more time off but sting is the stages will be reached quicker and if not careful, RM might move people out quicker. Hardly anyone gets sacked for going sick and the long term sick will still be protected up to a point where they can still do the job or not costing too much.
The CWU are so disappointing in not even conceding anything at all on the issues of high sickness rate and how much it is costing. That is burying the head in the sand and why RM will not concede to us.
Also, a double mandate for 2 different strikes reasons make dialogue almost impossible. If they pay us more then we shall still go on strike for changes. We are in for a long ride unless both sides compromise soon.

Re: Proposed sick policy
One rebuttal to the submission that RMs sick policy is too generous is, the job is particularly tiring. I’ve done building work and although it’s harder, I’d say it’s less tiring than pure walking posting.
And being knackered all the time is bad for all illnesses.
I’m not saying it means there’s nothing wrong with our sick policy as it is but it shouldn’t be the same as an office worker either.

Re: Proposed sick policy
It’s seriously bad news if anyone is suffering from a health problem or needs an operation for an accident/injury. I’m already working out how I’ll manage without all me usual overtime hours while I’m off. I’ve just looked it up and SSP is just under £100 for a week.
Nobody wants to be ill. I appreciate there are slackers out there but I can provide doctors or surgeons letters for everything.
