Will sickness be very high tomorrow?

In my opinion, staff sickness levels will be high tomorrow, Tuesday 30th.
Rightly or wrongly, a lot will take the four day break due to the way this business treats it's staff and the general disillusionment a lot of people are feeling.

Every strike day is an individual event. If you took part in official Industrial action on Friday, then attended work Saturday, only to go sick tomorrow and report that your sickness has extended to the next scheduled strike day Wednesday, you would not be unpaid for Wednesday as nobody could presume that you would have taken Industrial action, and you are ill, which some people will actually be genuinely ill.

Can anyone clarify this?

You'll be deducted a days pay still. I read it on here somewhere. Genuine or not RM will see any sick absence around industrial action time as too coincidental.

It's not that simple. If you had a heart attack today and were in hospital in a serious condition, you would not be docked a days' pay for Wednesday. The business can't just play god and decide what they think is genuine sickness.

And it will be included in sick record unless they ring in to say they would be coming back......but we're on strike.
People taking sick days when you're not sick is personal choice but actions like this won't help the business and thus a pay rise. More good would come from everyone working to time except in some offices/ walks this would involve people going home later than normal

Well obviously a heart attack will be deemed seriously. People's reasons on ringing in sick will be looked at differently. Also if you took a heart attack and were in a very serious condition I'm sure you wouldn't give a fiddler's if you were deducted a days pay. In fact I'd say work would be the last thing on your mind!!!!!!

Lol I agree, I was only using that extreme scenario to make a point.

The attendance agreement states:
'All sickness absences are assumed to be
genuine and should be discussed between
the employee and the manager on return to work'

My point being they can't make judgement calls upon the validity of absence. As all absences are assumed to be genuine, a manager can't decide that one individual employee's absence is genuine and another person is pulling a flanker.

And I agree that it's a necessary sacrifice that we are all making and staff shouldn't take the strike days off as sickness. But they will.
