Van/vehicle checks
Can people give me a rough idea of how long it takes them to do a correct daily van check please?
My COM claims he can do a van check in 4 minutes (so he's going to show me on Tuesday)
I've told him he won't even get the first "wipe everything down" section done in that time.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
I totally agree with you. If you do a van check correctly as per instruction it would take you approximately 15-20 mins? , even longer on a Tuesday with the bonnet open.
I am amazed how few people do them properly , or even at all. Trust me if there is an issue or an accident and you have signed the van checks as completed then you will be disciplined.
Your manager does not care about you, does not care if the checks are done , he/she is only interested in the fact that the system shows that the van checks have been done
It makes my blood boil to see people cutting corners , coming in early , not doing the van checks, not taking breaks just to finish early and/or do ghost overtime. Its because of these people (you all know them, they are in every office) that duties have been ruined in terms of time span to complete them. Its because of these people that extra work has been added to your fitting, or your absorption is so big.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
My DOM was making all sorts of claims yesterday as I told him I'd be cutting off.
I mentioned a "15 minute van check" and he just scoffed claiming they are only timed for 4 minutes.
I just laughed at him and asked him to show me on Tuesday.
Let's see what excuses he comes up with.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
It will probably take him the 4mins to find the lever to open the bonnet !!! Like I said they dont care as long as youve ticked the van check off on the system. 4mins???? , more like 20-25mins on a full Tuesday check ,

Tyres pressure and conditions/depth,oil,coolant,windscreen washers fluid, lights and visual inspection of body work for damage should be checked before commencement of delivery
Let Dom do all that in 4 minutes

Re: Van/vehicle checks
I logged off 3 vans yesterday morning before I got an acceptable one, 2 of them were gone when I returned and it wouldn’t have been to the garage. Take your time and do your checks, don’t be bullied into taking a suspect van out.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
How many tyre pressure pumps do other offices have? We only have the 1, so no idea how everyone is realistically mean't to check all 4 tyres in the morning without a big queue forming. I wonder why we don't have more.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
We have 1 which most of the time we can’t even get to (the few of us who actually check tyre pressures) because they park spare vans in that area and it won’t reach.scoobymunster wrote: ↑28 Aug 2022, 11:58How many tyre pressure pumps do other offices have? Re: Van/vehicle checks
Totally agree, van checks should be done, as otherwise it's us that will get in trouble, had my partner trying to rush me a few weeks ago was in a hurry, told him I will be at least 10 minutes. Seriously thinking of coming off driving, not worth the stress

Get your stopwatch out. Time him. Be pedantic.
Point out any discrepancies in his methods, of which there will be many to save time.
I doubt the DIM will have a clue how to actually do it properly.

Re: Van/vehicle checks
when you have a van that doesn't pass the van check there are no other spare vans anyway.

"is your vehicle free of exterior dirt?"
Thumbs down.
PMT1 to be filled in.
Manager to sign off on it.

Wipe down the touch points would be easier if there were actually any ‘Covid’ wet wipes on site.
