Conduct Concerns

Hi Guys,

I hope you are well?

I have concerns over conduct of an employee - Can I ask some questions?

1) Does an employee (postal person) have the right to take a van home even if its off their round for breaks?
2)Is it acceptable policy to take piles of mail inside their personal home address?
3)Are employess aloowed to use the vans for personal errands as in taking home equipment (Bulky) home?

We had one who stole in our office lot's of others were investigated by IB before he got caught EBAY and William Hill was the cause not him stealing and making others suffer!

I guess you could call at home for your break and toilet if within reasonable distance and okayed with management.
Taking mail in-house is a no no and personal use of van is too.

Anybody would be suicidal to do any of those things ! Any excuse now RM would call it gross misconduct and instant dismissal

Why are you so concerned lots of us take vans home we are allowed to pop in shops on route, why would me buying a lawn mower on the way home concern anybody, who knows what the person is bringing into their house, one thing for sure if mail is going missing then it will be flagged up and will end up in court.

Probably because you popping to the shop to buy a lawn mover means you are not covered by insurance if involved in an accident:

This is exactly why you question the brain logic of a select few morons working for this company.

Moan, moan, moan about how they are being treated by the company but then want to use what is probably the most instantly recognisable vehicle on the UK's roads to do private errands, completely against official company policy, and if caught serve their own sacking up on a plate for themselves, as well as face possible prosecution for driving while uninsured.

No postie has any idea who is driving a private car past them when they are out and about in an RM van, it could be a fellow postie / manager / director / IB etc; and in today's world where most people have a camera phone in their pocket, collecting real time instant photographic evidence is not hard!

Years ago you'd have probably been able to blag it, but in 2022......absolute NO.

Are you a manager? If so you should know. Did you have a chat with your employee with some guidance for the future or did you just pass it up and you’re waiting to hear about dismissal.
