Royal Mail Says It Would Suffer a Full-Year Loss From Strike

Royal Mail PLC said it will sustain a full-year loss if 115,000 workers go ahead with a planned strike over pay.

The UK postal service will be “materially loss making” in the 2023 fiscal year in the event of walkouts by the Communication Workers Union over four days in August and September, it said in a statement Wednesday.

You can't paint a bleak picture of the financial health of the business to justify rejecting a pay rise then say we would be fine if we didn't strike.

Please team - won’t you please think of the shareholders - they might only receive £300M this year in dividends - if you strike - which is completely unacceptable.

Ok so let’s be clear. The board have decided to give RM work to a competitor, the ivory towers boys give themselves huge bonuses, pay £400M to shareholders, they insult the “Team” by imposing an un agreed and paltry pay rise, apparently the the only vision for the future is to smash apart the T&C’s of the said “Team”! So when the workforce fight back against this it’s somehow us being unreasonable? #enoughisenough

The suggestion was that we would break even, as most of our income is received in the second half of the year, although I'm not sure how losing just 4 days work is going to have such a drastic effect on our profits, if we're already losing £1m a day in the first half(26 weeks?) of the year.

That is a myth put out by RM. Whenever a strike is mentioned their go to line is the one you've just put out. None of these courier companies can cope with their current workload, you've only got to see the record amount of Amazon parcels continually coming through the system, yet these are supposed to be the go-to boys that RM want to copy. Yodel, Hermes and DPD have no chance either.

It's the same as telling us that agency staff will be in to do our work if we strike. 40+ experienced posties with a thorough knowledge of our area can't clear our office yet according to RM a handful of agency are gonna walk in and do the lot!!!!!

surely with all the doom and gloom regarding strike action and royal mail finances they will be cancelling up coming dividend payment in september.
